Sprint Probably Didn’t Sell As Many EVO’s As We Thought

Posted: 09 Jun 2010 08:56 AM PDT

Sprint has released a statement today in regards to the sales figures of the EVO. Apparently they made a mistake when they said the EVO has sold twice as many as the Pre and Instinct combined on their release day. What they meant to say was the EVO sales was "in line" with sales of the aforementioned handsets.

“The total number of HTC EVO 4G devices sold on launch day was in line with the number of Samsung Instinct and Palm Pre devices sold over their first three days on the market combined.”

Yesterday's statement by Sprint Clearly said this handset outsold the previous two record holders by two times the combined sales figures. Is this a marketing tactic by Sprint to create more buzz around the EVO? Everyone wants what they can't have, Sprint could be making this device unavailable on purpose to get more customers to come in when more becomes available. Maybe the EVO didn't sell as much as they expected.

In our forum, a member stated that he went into a Sprint store and picked up 3 EVO's after the manager gave an employee "the nod". Normally this wouldn't be a big deal but before he went into the store he called and they said it was sold out. Sounds kind of fishy to me, or maybe it's just me. Either way this handset is a big hit and Sprint needs something like this to stay afloat.

Notion Ink Adam on Track for Third Quarter Launch, New Hardware Mentioned

Posted: 09 Jun 2010 08:53 AM PDT

One of the stand-out gadgets out there, Notion Ink’s Adam tablet, runs Android. And it does it so well, and tucked away so nicely in a gorgeous piece of hardware, that we can safely say it’s one of our most anticipated devices coming down the pipe. Unfortunately, there’s been all sorts of rumors floating around that the company has had some set-backs, and therefore the tablet would be forced to have some launch delays. SlashGear caught up with the founder of Notion Ink, Rohan Shravan, and got the low-down on what’s going on with our favorite, unreleased tablet.

And, thankfully, it’s not bad news. According to Shravan, the company is busy celebrating today, as they’ve just sealed the deal on their last bit of investment. While they couldn’t tell SlashGear who the final investors were, they did say that with the extra boost in money, the company should be ready to pump out 100,000 Adam’s every month. To go along with that bit of news, the company confirmed that they are still on track for a third quarter, 2010 launch, and that there haven’t been any monumental set-backs to prevent a timely launch.

The Notion Ink Adam already comes in two flavors: the first features Pixel Qi’s 3qi indoor/outdoor transflective display, and rocks the second generation Tegra chipset from NVIDIA. The other is a tablet with the run-of-the-mill LCD, but also comes with Tegra inside. The latter will have a cheaper price tag, due to the lack of the Pixel Qi display. The company suggested that a third option could be coming later, too. This one wouldn’t feature Tegra, though, and there would be other alterations to make the price tag even cheaper than the other LCD model. No details, unfortunately, but if it’s anywhere as good as the model we’ve seen, it will be a welcomed addition to the Adam family. Check out SlashGear’s hands-on with the Adam below.

Google Search by Voice in French, German, Italian and Spanish

Posted: 09 Jun 2010 08:36 AM PDT

This is great news for our European Android friends. Google Voice search has been updated to include French, German, Italian, and Spanish. Google has been real busy today, first Google maps received a big update now this update to Voice search.

Support for these new languages will be added to the Search by voice application for Android 1.6 and up devices. The new languages will be added in the Language and keyboard section in the settings menu. If you do not have the Voice Search app, head to the market now and download it.

Once updated, you can now perform voice searches in your native language. There are a few slight mishaps, if you're a Spanish speaker from Mexico you may find it a bit hard to use the new search features. The reason is because it's designed to work with accents from Spain, France, Italy and Germany. So if you speak one of the new supported languages, let us know how it's working out for you.

Samsung Galaxy S Promo Site – Video

Posted: 08 Jun 2010 06:41 PM PDT

Samsung is doing a great job with the promotion of this device. Promotional boxes were sent out a few days ago now the promo site is live. There isn't much information on this page but there is a place for you to sign up to be notified on when it will be available and to have more information sent to you directly.

This site does a good job of displaying the main features of this device right on the promo page. The main feature Samsung wants to burn in your head is the brilliant Super AMOLED screen and it is a beauty. Another big feature is the processor, it's a 1 GHZ that has been made by Samsung and there's still a lot to be uncovered in this CPU.

There have been rumors that this device will land on VZW soon. Another rumor quickly followed it that made claims of it being released for T-Mobile in July. We all are aware now that this phone will be on all of the major carriers.

myTouch 3G Series, Getting Froyo (Android 2.2)

Posted: 08 Jun 2010 01:32 PM PDT

Good news for all you myTouch 3G owners. You're getting Android 2.2!!! This has recently been confirmed by T-Mobile that Froyo will be coming soon. There is currently no word on if the G1 will receive this update as well.

Judging from the picture above I would say that every version of the myTouch 3G is getting some Froyo love. So whether you have a version 1.2, Fender or the original, you can expect to get the update to 2.2 soon. This update not only includes all the goodies that Froyo has to offer, there will be a few extra incentives. The genius button will make its way to every myTouch as well as full exchange support and the new Faves gallery. These features are already included in the new myTouch Slide. I guess the anticipation can now begin. Congratulations my Touch owners you're now the third phone to officially have 2.2 on the way.

HTC EVO 4G Sold-Out Everywhere?

Posted: 08 Jun 2010 01:21 PM PDT

If you haven't been lucky enough to get your hands on the EVO 4G you may have missed your opportunity. The HTC EVO 4G is now sold out in almost every location. After reports of record sales on this handset, this was imminent. There could be a long wait for more shipments to arrive.

After smashing records on the day of its release, this may be the only thing that can slow the first 4G phone down. Given HTC's recent struggles with keeping up with demand, it could be a month before more EVO's are available for sale. The Desire is still suffering from shortages and the Incredible's expected shipment date keeps getting pushed back.

If you know where we can purchase the EVO now, please share that information with the rest of the community. The EVO has been sold out at my local Radio Shack and Best Buy since last night. Are there any available in your area?

Swype Beta Has Been Updated

Posted: 08 Jun 2010 12:50 PM PDT

A new version of Swype is now available to all of you lucky people that managed to get in on the beta testing. This keyboard has been preinstalled on a few phones and has yet to make its way onto the Android Market. This update includes a few bugs fixes and performance tweaks.

The new version now automatically inserts apostrophes into contractions, this should eliminate the problem users are having when trying to input words like wont' and don't. The bug where it saves your password to the user dictionary has also been addressed.

The full list of fixes are:

Added better context sensitivity for the "magic button" (go/search/enter/smiley)
Added automatic apostrophe insertion for contractions (e.g. won't, don't, wasn't, etc)
Added the Italian language dictionary
Improved sensing of field type to prevent the display and addition of passwords to the UDB (user dictionary)
Improved suppression of auto-spacing in fields such as URLs and email addresses
Updated the built-in dictionary to include several common words that were previously missing
Rewrote some settings descriptions to be more clear on their functionality
Fixed licensing issue causing "Limited Functionality" errors when rebooting devices running Android 2.0 and later
Fixed licensing issue causing some users to receive an "Incorrect ID" error when installing Swype
Fixed a bug where manually typing some words with word-prediction enabled would cause Swype to crash
Fixed a bug which caused some words added to the UDB to erroneously override other words when word-prediction is enabled
Many other minor bug fixes!

Once you receive the update, uninstall the previous version before installing the latest.

LG Optimus Is Now Rooted

Posted: 08 Jun 2010 12:33 PM PDT

There hasn't been much coverage on this device since it's not available here in the US. It may never make it over here but in Europe (mainly France) this is a very popular handset. It has been rooted by none other than Paul aka Modaco.

Paul has been a very busy guy lately. A few days ago he rooted the Dell Streak and now this. He is one of the top ROM makers for various different phones. If you're unfamiliar with the LG Optimus it has a1500mAh battery, a 3.5mm headphone jack, Bluetooth 2.1 capability, assisted GPS, 32GB of expandable microSD memory and four customizable home screen themes. It runs Android 1.6 and has a 600 MHZ CPU.

Samsung Galaxy S Releasing on T-Mobile July 21st?

Posted: 08 Jun 2010 12:20 PM PDT

It's no surprise that the Galaxy S will be landing on all of the major carriers. But, this is the first rumor from a credible source that states a specific date for its release. A tipster told Tmonews that the Galaxy S will be releasing on T-Mobile on July 21st.

We're going to take this news with a few grains of salt until some more information is uncovered. Hopefully some inventory screenshots or official word from T-Mobile or Samsung. Not too long ago there was a video that surface with a Samsung Galaxy S with T-Mobile apps installed, that pretty much confirmed that there is a T-Mobile version in the making.

Not too long ago there was a leaked roadmap of T-Mobile's upcoming promotions. They promised something major will be announced later this month. For the sake of T-Mobile users everywhere, let's hope that it's the announcement of the Galaxy S. T-Mobile needs a few good high-end devices and this would make a good foundation device that they could build of off.
