| Samsung Behold II Heading to Cincinnati Bell, Runs Stock Android Posted: 23 Jul 2010 10:01 AM PDT Wow, this one’s a curve ball. The Samsung Behold II has had a torrid affair with the Internet lately, with the fact that it got denied Android 2.x, received an update to Android 1.6, but then that too got pulled. No fun for anyone, if you ask us. But, that’s not stopping the folks over at Cincinnati Bell from getting their hands on it, and getting ready to launch it on their own 3G-enabled network.
But, there’s a few pieces of information here that will interest a couple people out there. For example, this Behold II isn’t like any other Behold II out there. What are we talking about? Unlike the Behold II that’s running on T-Mobile right now, this one’s unhindered by any kind of User Interface skins/customization. Yep, that’s right: it’s stock Android. Though, at the time of this writing, we can’t confirm what version of Android is running under the hood. We’re assuming Android 1.6, but we could be wrong. (Basically, if you’re in the Cincinnati Bell region and can check out one of the devices, let us know which version it is, okay?) As far as pricing goes, it certainly won’t break the bank. For $129.99, you’ll be able to get the stock Android version of the Behold II. Of course, that price is after you sign your name on that contract for a new, two-year contract, and after you send in that $100 mail-in rebate. You could also buy it out-right for $229.99, which will also get you a $100 mail-in rebate, too. So, anyone out there interested in a skin-less Behold II? [via Phandroid] ) |
| Olive Pad Is Taking Its 7-Inch Tablet Goodness To India Posted: 22 Jul 2010 06:39 PM PDT Whether or not you’re looking at Android for your next mobile phone, there’s no doubt in anyone’s mind that we’re also going to have to start looking at tablets a lot more seriously as 2010 continues to tick by. Companies are getting serious about their Apple competitor, and that just means more options for us. If you happen to be in India, here’s a new one for you. Next month, that is.
While the Olive Pad is certainly a tablet, that’s not stopping the company behind its creation from telling you to use it as a phone, if you don’t have any other options. That’s right, voice service is being included. Along with a mic and speaker. We don’t recommend holding this thing up to your head, but getting a Bluetooth headset may help things out.. The Olive Pad features a Qualcomm MSM7227 processor, GSM/WCDMA, a back 3MP camera, a front-facing camera, 512MB ROM, 512MB RAM, WiFi, USB port, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. The tablet will cost approximately Rs. 25000 which equivalent to $530 USD. So, not bad, but maybe a bit on the expensive side. [via crunchgear] ) |
| Google Voice Speeds Up Dialing For Android Devices Posted: 22 Jul 2010 06:35 PM PDT The new version of Google Voice has arrived today. Previously, the Google Voice were set up so that the users had to make a request to the GV server every single time they wanted to make an outbound call, but all of that has changed. Due to Direct Access Numbers, Google has managed to speed up the whole process, which should mean using the service on your device will be easier than ever before.
If you’re using an Android device (which is probably why you’re here), then you’ve probably at least tried Google Voice at some point or another. And if you called it off because it took forever, then you should probably give it another shot. With Direct Access Numbers, everything should just be a lot smoother. [via androidguys] ) |
| Droid X Consumes 5X More Data Than Other Devices on Verizon Posted: 22 Jul 2010 06:32 PM PDT It’s only been on the market a short while, but already the Droid X has made quite a few headlines. And not for all good reasons, either. Coming off the heels of those screen mishaps, we’re hearing that Verizon’s taking a long look at the Droid X, and the fact that users are using upwards of five times more data than other customers using other devices. Verizon’s business development executive director implied that the DROID X users are quite fond of using excessive data. It would probably be rough for folks not to use data, especially with that 4.3-inch screen display and apps like BlockBuster and YouTube pre-loaded onto your device.
Verizon has mentioned that tiered data pricing makes sense, but they’ve only ever said that in relation to their next-step in data: 4G/LTE. Right now, even if people are craving the Droid X and its data-consuming potential, we don’t think they’re going to change things around after the fact. But, those rumors are still kicking, so we’ll stay on top of it. [via androidguys] ) |
| IHKC X1 Android Phone Onlys Cost 999 Yuan Posted: 22 Jul 2010 06:26 PM PDT Recently, IHKC in China announced the X1, an Android device running on the cheap side. It may not be the most attractive Android-based handset out there, but at least it will get the job done. Not that it will blow away the owner because of its feature set, though. For only 999 Yuan, you shouldn’t expect much. That way you don’t get let down.
So, what do you get with a $147 (local) price tag? Well, don’t expect to run many applications, because it comes with Android 1.5 OS. The other specs include a 2.8-inch display, 256MB RAM, a 528MHZ Qualcomm processor, 256MB ROM,a 2MP camera, and 3.5mm headphone jack. Overall performance might not be so bad for the first Android users. [via ClonedInChina] ) |
