Rock Band 3 song list leak: Harmonix responds in video, confirms more songs! Posted: 20 Aug 2010 01:17 PM PDT
Daniel Sussman, project manager for Rock Band 3, is seen at the front of this video, slowly and clearly scrolling through the Rock Band 3 song list while his team mates do their best to stop the rumours once and for all. The thing is, Daniel’s scrolling reveals that all the rumoured tracks are indeed tucked away inside Rock Band 3! There are also a couple listed not included in the original leak, including China Grove by the Doobie Brothers, Centrefold by The J. Geils Band and Freebird by Lynyrd Skynyrd. OK, so there’s a bit of cross-over here with old Rock Band games, but we’re still looking forward to having all these songs to hammer through when we finally get our hands on Rock Band 3. See the Rock Band 3 song list in full below, it’s right after the video from Harmonix. Dio – Rainbow in the Dark Related posts:

New Tweetdeck Android beta released Posted: 20 Aug 2010 07:30 AM PDT
Tweetdeck is one of the most popular desktop Twitter apps, and any mobile version is bound to stir up some interest. Nevertheless, Tweetdeck seem a bit surprised at just how eager Android owners have been to get their hands on a copy of the Tweetdeck for Android public beta. ![]() Over 2,00 users have grabbed the beta from the Android Market and, say Tweetdeck, a lot of them are actually using it, “Even though we haven’t officially released the app yet,” said a post to the Tweetdeck blog “TweetDeck Android is generating more tweets and status updates than our 3 month old iPad app.” Now the less charitable may be inclined to attribute that particular factoid to the.. umm.. unique qualities of the iPad version rather than anything particularly great about Tweetdeck for Android. Still, its non-too-shabby. A second beta was release yesterday, adding support for bit.ly URL shortening, individual notifications for each column (you can even set different colours for your LED to flash when you get different alerts – e.g. pink for @ mentions, green for DMs) and a sharing ‘intent’ that makes it easy to share web pages, images and other content via Tweetdeck from the standard Share’ menu. 3DTV makers working on universal glasses protocol Posted: 20 Aug 2010 07:00 AM PDT
In cinemas, 3D films now use polarized glasses to direct create the 3D effect, but this requires very bright projectors and is generally quite expensive to implement. Most home systems uses active shutters, where each lens is quickly blacked out and then cleared again in rapid succession. The shuttering is controlled by software to ensure it is properly synchronized and happens at exactly the right moment for the optical illusion to work. The problem is that each TV manufacturer uses their own proprietary shuttering software. Each TV has its own type of glasses that can speak with the shuttering interface via a wireless signal so not only can owners of one set watch someone else’s TV it is difficult to make a ‘universal’ pair of 3D glasses that will work anywhere, so you are usually stuck with whatever design your TV maker decided upon. Some universal designs exist, but they use undocumented methods to ‘fake’ synchronisation based on IR pulses from TV screens. There is also a problem with colour reproductions. Because each set reproduces colours onscreen in a slightly different way the glasses from some often use slight tints to automatically correct palette problems. It’s a mess, basically. The Consumer Electronics Association is now working with manufacturers to create a standard for the emitters on 3D TV sets so that future sets will all use the same protocol to sync shutters. "In an ideal world, emitters would migrate to this common specification, which would make for simpler glasses," says the CEA’s Brian Markwalter, "We would then let the legacy stuff phase out of the market." Call of Duty: Black Ops mod tools for PC tweakers confirmed Posted: 20 Aug 2010 06:35 AM PDT
The news that Treyarch is all for Call of Duty: Black Ops mods on the PC popped up in the official forums. PCDev, a member of the Call of Duty: Black Ops development team revealed the good news. ![]() The post said: "There are some purely technical issues related to engine and internal tool enhancements that do not easily fit the mod tools paradigm. We have looked at it close enough to see that it is non-trivial and we will pick it up again post-launch. Right now we are completely focused on finishing the game. And, dev console: confirmed." Cut through the slightly dry tone of the post and you're left with a confirmation that mod tools will be on the cards once Call of Duty: Black Ops is complete. Including a dev console also opens up lots of opportunities for using cheat codes. Treyarch previously suggested that there will be dedicated servers for Call of Duty: Black Ops multiplayer on the PC which should mean there'll be no repeat of the uproar that surround Modern Warfare 2. BioShock Infinite to “Bring the mystery back” Posted: 20 Aug 2010 05:41 AM PDT
“When BioShock 1 came out people were like, ‘what? What am I seeing here? What is this?’,” said Levine, “By BioShock 2 naturally that was a very difficult thing to maintain… you’re back in Rapture, you’re back in that setting” ![]() The need for mystery was one of the factors that influenced the decision to set Bioshock Infinite in a completely different environment. “For us BioShock was never about the setting, it was about a couple of gameplay principles – the idea of being in an environment that’s strange and weird, ridiculously and over the top but still grounded in a human experience and humanity.” The mystery that has been niggling at us – and many gamers – is exactly what makes this a BioShock game. The setting is different and Infinite seems to be set in an alternate history that has nothing to do with the Objectivist-inspired setting of the original. Levine didn’t reveal much, but did drop a couple of tantalising hints – “We kind of knew people would be thrown out of the loop when we announced this game. That’s what we wanted, even on a meta-level. ‘What? It’s a sequel, but it’s not?” There were, he added, “very clear reasons” why the game has both ‘BioShock’ in the title and ‘Infinite’ and that all would become “clearer and clearer over time.” Intriguing. Tesco rolls out game trade-ins nationwide Posted: 20 Aug 2010 04:00 AM PDT
After a successful trial in its Basildon branch, Tesco is rolling out its games trade-in scheme to over 60 stores with dedicated multimedia departments. The supermarket chain has placed adverts in the national press listing several games alongside the prices it will pay for used copies. Unlike games retailers like GAME or Gamestation, who offer either store credit or (smaller) cash amounts, Tesco will be offering credit that can be redeemed against any product available in store. ![]() Sample prices include £19 for Red Dead Redemption, £12 for 2010 FIFA World Cup and £17 for a used copy of Mario Kart. Prices not to be sniffed at, even if the scheme does hold out the horrific possibility that your mum might decide to swap your copy of GTA5 for a week’s shopping. Tesco’s Store Locator will seek out the nearest branch that is part of the trade-in scheme – also a useful resource if you are just looking to find some used games to pick up a bargain.
