Sprint brings AirStrip Technologies patient remote monitoring to Android devices for docs Posted: 20 Oct 2010 05:02 AM PDT Smartphones appeal to consumers, they also appeal to pro users as well, and as such there tend to be apps that are aimed directly at both user groups. Sprint has announced a new partnership with AirStrip Technologies that offers a very appealing feature for doctors on the Android EVO 4G or Epic 4G smartphones.
The new app is HIPAA compliant and has been cleared by the FDA. The app allows the doctor or caregiver that is monitoring a patient to get the vital signs that are typically only viewable for monitors on a hospital ward or in the room directly on their Android smartphones. That data includes things like EKG readings, blood pressure, and more. While Sprint is announcing this new feature, AirStrip points out that the service will be offered to physicians on other carriers and with other devices as well. None of the patient data is stored on the phone so if it get slots or stolen there is no risk of personal information being lost. ) |

Previously listed at £599.99, the tablet’s price drop is likely to be a response to UK retailer Carphone Warehouse, who put the Galaxy Tab up for preorder earlier in the week at the lower figure. According to Amazon’s figures – still not yet officially confirmed by Samsung – that now makes the Tab £270 less than the list price, or a 24-percent reduction. It will begin shipping on November 1 2010. [via Twitter] ) |

CEO Rory Read told PC Mag “I don’t believe ‘Froyo’ is the right base to have a fully functioning pad,” with the company instead waiting for the tablet-centric release Google has promised is in the pipeline. HTC myTouch 3G’s Upgrade to Android 2.2 Happening Now Posted: 19 Oct 2010 02:11 PM PDT It was a week ago today that we last talked about the upgrade to Android 2.2 for the HTC myTouch 3G. The original myTouch 3G, the one that came out a year ago, is finally getting its just time in the lime light, as the Over the Air upgrade for the device is finally making its way out. It’s a little behind schedule from those initial rumors we heard a week ago, that suggested the main part of the roll-out would begin on the 13th of October. But, it looks like that was just an initial wave.
If there hadn’t been reports of the update landing on some devices across the country, we would have thought it was just a hoax, leading up to today. But, we know that there were a few people out there getting the update. But, it looks like if you haven’t received it yet, today might be your lucky day. As you might expect, the update will take time, so stay patient. Oh, but a bit of bad news. If you happen to have the 3.5mm headphone version of the myTouch 3G, the Slide, or the Fender Edition? Yeah, this update isn’t for you, apparently. Details about why that’s happening are supposed to come soon, so stay tuned. And if you get the update, let us know how it goes down in the comments section. [via DroidDog] ) |
T-Mobile G2 Now Available From Amazon for $79.99 Posted: 19 Oct 2010 01:35 PM PDT It’s no secret now that Amazon has a thing for discounting things. This time around, it’s the T-Mobile G2, and it’s getting quite the price drop courtesy of Amazon.
As usual, there’s plenty of other goodies to toss around, too. You’ll have to sign a new, two-year agreement to get the lowered cost (no surprise there), but you’ll get 2 day free shipping to make sure the deal is just that much better for you. The price you get for the new agreement is $79.99, which is quite a big price drop. And, you don’t even need to send in a mail-in rebate, either, which should just be the icing on the cake. Head on over to Amazon to check it out for yourself. [via Tmo News] ) |
