| World Kitchen “What’s Bubbling? Kitchen Tools!” Design Competition Posted: 20 Oct 2010 08:00 AM PDT "Put that emotion in the food, because it’s so much more rewarding down the line"; says Hell's Kitchen celebrity chef Gordon Ramsey. Cooking has become such a habitual ritual that we rarely put in the extra effort for gourmet meals. Blame it on time constrains or pressures of life, but home-cooking has undergone major transformations, demanding serious changes in our kitchen too. The future foresees requirement for tools that will comply with our instant-food needs, helping us to whip up tasty treats in a jiffy. The future requires designers like you to come up with kitchen tool solutions today! Designs that offer sustainable tools and techniques that comply with our evolving lifestyles, demographics, cultural expectations and economics. Can you rise to the challenge of creating new kitchen tools and techniques, cross-pollinating from other cultures, or perfecting our tried-and-true tools, improving the cook's experience while prepping, cooking or serving? It took us almost 2,500 years to evolve from the basic Neolithic tools to the present-day kitchen equipments; the future is not that patient…so we need to hurry! What's Bubbling? Invites you to present your ideas for the "Kitchen Tools" international design competition! World Kitchen believes that great tool design goes beyond function and aesthetics so it has established criteria for the jury to use in evaluating entries.

| Posted: 20 Oct 2010 05:58 AM PDT The Bone Bicycle takes inspiration from the natural structure of a human bone, meaning light-weight yet strong. This cycle also exudes the same feeling of being naturally strong with an easy smooth ride and a light-weight frame. It comes at the right time of Halloween, when ghost, ghouls and skeletons keep knocking at your front door! Designer: Sungkuk Park

| Push-Pull; Tug Of War Is Over! Posted: 20 Oct 2010 01:49 AM PDT Sticker industry may get a setback because their "Push" and "Pull" stickers may soon get redundant. The In & Out Door solves the problem of indicating push or pull on doors by making the door handle intuitive. On the "push" side, there is a flat panel and on the "pull" side there is a handle. Instinctively you know which side of the door opens which ways, and you get crowned as a super genius! Hold on, there is more to the working of this design and SADI (Samsung Art & Design Institute) student Jeon Hwan Soo explains his case quite effectively in his renders. Designer: Jeon Hwan Soo

| Posted: 20 Oct 2010 12:10 AM PDT I’ve got to begin this post by letting you know the fantastically simple description we were given in the mail, in response to our “No more than 1000 words” request: “This is a green bed.” Very to the point. Luckily, elsewhere there was much more to be known. It’s got everything! LED reading lights above your head, speakers for music to be played to wake you up, a flower box for lovely vines to grow up the sides, LED light to help the plant grow, and more! It’s the Ecotypic Bed! Below the bed there’s a battery which turns the activities you do on the bed and around the bed into energy. Fun, healthy exercise around the bed with straps and pulleys and all that good stuff. Do everything all day long on the bed! Hooray! Designer: Arthur Xin

| Posted: 20 Oct 2010 12:03 AM PDT Here’s a lamp from the coldest snow piles of Russia, presented by designer Anton Kozhevnikov who just happened to be really inspired by James Cameron’s Avatar. This lamp goes by the name “Atan” and has three modular fixtures. The base is heavy and full of sockets, each of them fitting and locking perfectly with the fixtures in order to assure stability. LED lights blast light from the tips of these fixtures, and puppies love it! The tops of the lamps are interesting as they consist of a twisted wire with an LED string of lights twisted along them. Flexible necks allow the twisting and turning you require in a wild lamp such as this. Truly Eywa doth smile upon the tundra today. Designer: Anton Kozhevnikov

| Watch to Time, Turbines to Speed! Posted: 20 Oct 2010 12:03 AM PDT Behold, the ancient power of windmills! It’s no mistake that windmills have been so prevalent in horror movies over the course of our recent past – the very thought of such a majestic beast being blown to bits gives me the shivers! Projects design group reminds us that windmills are amongst humankind’s oldest energy sources, turning water and wind into pure power! Thusly, they’ve made an object to remind us of that excellent trade here, in the Turbino watch. Turbino is a watch that pulsates with red and black loveliness. And it’s not just an artist watch, nay, it shows the time too! Two white hands tell the time while their brothers and sisters activate your wrist 24 hours a day. It’s completely hypnotic. Not to be stared at while you’re driving your semi truck down the highway. Be careful!
