This stunning architectural piece called the 360 House in Madrid, Spain eschews standard conformity by looping in on itself. The roof is at once protective and accessible as a walkway. Of course this means that almost no wall inside is flat but I suspect interior designers are up for a new challenge nowadays. Congrats to Andrés Silanes, Fernando Valderrama and Carlos Bañón. We must visit this house! Want to give us a tour Subarquitectura?

Iron Doggy

The I-dog is a part of a limited edition sculpture series created by Elda Bellone designed to explore how sculptures cross into function. Made of white iron, it’s strong and gentle at the same time. Awww! Use it as an umbrella stand or anything else you can fit inside its structure. It’s adorable!

Tweet and Like Me Even When I’m Dead!

Posted: 10 Nov 2010 02:15 AM PST

I guess the E-Tomb makes complete sense for people like me who spend endless hours tweeting, Facebook-ing and blogging. It's the kinda tombstone with Bluetooth and solar panels and stores your logs; friends and family can come over and access your virtual life from it and keep each other updated with anecdotes about you by uploading their stories to the tombstone. Sounds a bit spooky right now, but since RFID Tags for this are already popular, the next best thing has to be updates from the gave, and the world beyond!

Double Drum Wash

Posted: 10 Nov 2010 01:00 AM PST

What a clever thing…imagine using a washing machine with two drums, the first is a regular bloke that does its usual business and the second is convenient compartment in the front-loading-door that washes delicates or whites separately. The idea proposes at saving water, time and electricity by combining the two cycles. I think its brilliant!

That’s No Newspaper for Rain

Posted: 10 Nov 2010 12:10 AM PST

It’s a well-made piece of water-resistant canvas made for rain. It’s called the “Newspaper Rain Bag” and it’s 45.5 x 30.5cm of ironic rain-blocking paper for your everyday use. It’s also a bag that can carry your books! You’ll note not only the cleverl real-world sizing, but the well-placed strap and cover story (complete with a picture of the news paper ON the news paper.) It’s everything you need in a newspaper sized bag that also block the weather. Everything in the world!

What a clever contraption. I’m surprised these aren’t already carried by hipster stores all around the world. Of course, it’s relatively new, so maybe someday. We’ve got this scoop on them right now, you can buy a Newspaper Rain Bag from the Yanko Design Store and have it shipped to you in time for the holidays if you do so wish. What a lovely gift!

Preserving The World Through Electronics Upgrades

Posted: 10 Nov 2010 12:03 AM PST

We’ve got all this tech, right? And we use lots and lots of energy to make it all. When we switch to a new phone or drop our laptop, breaking the screen, getting a whole new laptop, we waste via the new energy we’re using creating a whole new set of objects. Instead, what designer Dominic Muren hopes to do is to create an environment where not only are our minds changed on the way we interact with our devices, but the way those devices are able to be fixed and upgraded.

Dominic Muren is working on new design methods to create products that are both easy to fix and to upgrade. It’s a design framework and it’s called Skin/Skeleton/Guts, or SSG. There’s two amazing videos, one of Muren on the street going completely excited nuts in a totally good way, then there’s his TED speech he made as a result of his awarded TED fellowship. Look at them, love them, and embrace the futuristic fantasy.

Back to the Typewriter

Posted: 10 Nov 2010 12:03 AM PST

Now here is a media center project unlike any I’ve ever seen before. Inspired by the iconic typewriter he has at his desk, (a Lettera 22,) thinking about the futuristic world we live in and will live in in the future, this designer decided to combine the aesthetics of the typewriter with the guts of a modern day media center. A media center, for those of you who’ve get to get on board, is a computer specially equipped to act as your television hookup.

All your movies, shows, and everything is on there, and now this device made by Carlo Convertini, a device by the name of “Back to the Future,” aims to represent that machine in the body of a typewriter. It’s different from the classic Letter 22 of course, having a detachable keyboard, printing instead of keys-to-ink typing, and that oh-so-important digital storage space. Take a look at the extended details on this machine in the images below. Lots to see, lots to click, lots of RED!
