Posted: 30 Dec 2010 08:59 AM PST We've seen some really cool Traffic Lights Concepts and going to the list is the Mobius Strip Lamp. It's a one-in-all installation that features vehicle signals, pedestrian signals and a street lamp. The main idea is to reduce the visual mish-mash of lights and get them composed into one neat strip. The signal values are standard, meaning green, yellow, and red light. Mobius Strip Lamp is a Red Dot Concept Design Award winning entry. Designer: Kisung Lee ---------- |
Posted: 30 Dec 2010 12:05 AM PST Although technically it’s basically as far before Christmas in the year as it’s ever going to be since it JUST happened a few days ago, we here at Yanko like to celebrate every day as a holiday – and what better way to do it than with a fun DIY design? The following creations are Christmas tree lanterns designed and executed by Hugon Kowalski, and you can make one yourself! Take a peek at the materials and methods and go for it! All you need is a lamp, natural fabric, clothes pegs, and a big PVC tube (the kind they use for plumbing in your house.) After you’ve constructed your tree as per the images below, and wet the fabric, gravity should take over and a Christmas tree will form! Place this tree outside and it’ll freeze to its shape (supposing you live in Minnesota like me, not India like Radhika – no snow oh noes!) Pretty neato! Designer: Hugon Kowalski ---------- |
Posted: 30 Dec 2010 12:02 AM PST Does it make sense to hold a graffiti awards show? Some say no way, the whole idea of vandalism is to do your thing and never get caught! The rest say sure, why not? Have some fun, eat some snacks. Who doesn’t love snacks? Thusly, there are the Artaq Awards in both Paris and Berlin. Below you’ll find lists of artists involved in this years’ shows as well as a bigger view of one the artists involved: Matox – with live laser graffiti! This event is known as the first EVER international Urban Arts competition. In it, artists from the most representative sects join together to showcase the evolution of all of their styles. The contest consists of six awards: Awards by category – Graffiti – Painting – Collage – Sculpture – Digital Art – Photography. In Situ Performances. The award winners will have their work shown in several galleries in Europe (this is what you’ll see below, here,) and the Artaq Bookzine will present their work and will be distributed at each of the trendy exhibition venues. Fun! Find out more information over at PureGraffiti. One of the representative artists in this competition is Matox, and below there’s a video of his work and a couple images of his work as well. He does calligraphic works which represent no letter or number, working with layers upon layers creating fabulous “cave painting” style artworks. [His works remind me very much of [Jose Parla] Designers: Various Berlin: and Paris: Matox: ---------- |
For Writers Who Cannot Paper Enough Posted: 30 Dec 2010 12:01 AM PST This design comes from the traditional Chinese form of calligraphy and painting – the scroll. It takes this scroll and uses the Involute curves to create a chair seat that provides both good elasticity and support. The seat piece is made of stainless steel or carbon fibre and extruded PC. This chair can be placed and used both indoors and outdoors, whichever you do so desire. Comes in a variety of colors (once it ends up being produced) – but for now, just two! This design was awarded the 2010 Grand Prize of DESIGNED IN CHINA: The Rado Young Design Prize. Well done! Designer: XU Gongwei ---------- |
