Video of the week: The augmented reality iPhone shooter Posted: 30 Jan 2011 01:00 AM PST This week saw us head off to London Toy Fair 2011 for a gander at some of the hottest playthings set to arrive later this year. Among them, the Appgun from Apptoyz. Using the camera of your iPhone, it transforms the Apple handset into an augmented reality alien shooter. Before you get started with the AppGun, you’ll need to download the Appgun gaming app. It’s free, but the plastic gun that the iPhone sits in will cost £20 when it hits the shops in April 2011. Once the app is downloaded you’re ready to shoot aliens as if they were hovering around your vicinity. thanks to some augmented reality magic made possible by the iPhone camera, in this case. The App gun app registers the movement of your iPhone as you point the gun at the UFO-inhabiting critters. An Apptoyz spokesperson said we’ll be able to get one from “anywhere” when it releases, so if you’re interested, be on the lookout. The below video should make your mind up for you.
