Braille Punch Sticker

Posted: 31 Jan 2011 06:57 AM PST

The Braille Punch Sticker reminds me of the Label Maker we saw two years ago. Like all processes, innovation sometimes comes in refinements. This one comes in a sleeker package, no cumbersome wheel and an easy punching mechanism. What remains the same is the sticker aspect. Neat!

Only One Adaptor Will Do

Posted: 31 Jan 2011 06:55 AM PST

We take such pride in talking about the devices we own. Look at me I own a laptop, MP3 player, Smartphone, digital camera, gaming console… list goes on and on. All of them are precious and are “must carry” items when traveling. Do you know how many chargers and cords that equates to let alone the weight! See, now you get my drift and this is why we need something like A Universal Adaptor, a charging hub with extensions that will fit most standard devices. Goodbye heavy individual adaptors!

Tea for Two

Posted: 31 Jan 2011 06:54 AM PST

The Yin & Yang is a teapot designed for two people. So if one person prefers green and the other prefers red – you can prepare both of them inside this teapot . The spouts even double as the handle. Cool idea and looks quite beautiful too. Great opportunity here to show very contrasting teas.

2011 Electrolux Design Lab Compettiton – Are You Ready For Intelligent Mobility

Posted: 31 Jan 2011 03:53 AM PST

One of the most nail-biting moments of my life was seeing the 8 Finalists of 2010 Electrolux Design Lab explaining their projects to some very inquisitive judges. It is one thing to just submit concepts on paper for evaluation and another thing to defend your views, stand your ground and come out triumphant! This is what Electrolux Design Lab is all about, standing up for your convictions! The 2011 competition is looking for you to offer Intelligent Mobility solutions for cooking, storing food and cleaning up whilst using existing technologies.

This year's brief comes out as a video message by Henrik Otto, Senior Vice President of Global Design at Electrolux. Have a look and get all geared up to enter the 2011 Electrolux Design Lab Competition.

Entries Close: Sunday May 1, 2011, 23:59 (Central European Time), on the Electrolux Design Lab website.

What you win

Design Brief

Electrolux Design Lab 2011 invites industrial design students to create home appliances that consider intelligent mobility. In particular they seek a design concept that will offer personalization and inspires users whilst utilizing existing technology to offer support and guidance. Like a Penguin

Posted: 31 Jan 2011 12:10 AM PST

The Penguin faucet series is designed to conserve water and encourage eco-responsible living. The Penguin faucet, which bears a distinct resemblance to the body of a penguin, is low flow and dispenses water at a rate of 1.5 GPM. Not only does this tug at my heart strings for all things penguin inspired, it also happens to look pretty good although I feel like something in the series should have resembled a penguin egg.

Lofty Fruit and Plant Storage

Posted: 31 Jan 2011 12:03 AM PST

So you’ve got some tiny plants and you’ve got a few bananas and orange you need stored somewhere in your kitchen but you just cant find the space, right? Check this design out. It’s called Cocoon and it’s made for kitchen storage. It’s made to be a storage unit that combines decoration, storage, and cultivation for the kitchen and the kitchen window. It’s got an organic shape so the plants will love you, and it’s got an alcove for all your round and banana-shaped belongings.

In this container you can store spices and fruits, allowing you both color and life in the kitchen without taking up space on your tiny counters. Cocoon is made of a clay that’s able to absorb water from cultivation, and when it evaporates, the storage is cooled. Sounds like a total package!

Not So Flatware

Posted: 31 Jan 2011 12:03 AM PST

When a design award so prestigious as GOOD is bestowed upon a project, we take hefty notice. The following project is a recipient of that award, and is called “Flatty,” a stainless steel flatware set designed by Harry&Camila (whom you can also see pictured in the gallery below. Behold a majestic set of food adjusters.

The GOOD DESIGN program has been in operation for 59 years now, having picked Harry&Camila as winners of their awards for five years in a row. The Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies have bestowed a 2011 GOOD DESIGN AWARD on this particular set of flatware – “Flatty.” Take a look at some magnificent simplicity.

Transport Overgrown

Posted: 31 Jan 2011 12:03 AM PST

It’s quite often that we bear witness to transport systems being run into the ground, dust covered, dirt covered, rust and paint chips breaking away until dead. Not often do we see a system that flourishes in nature, it’s very environment becoming one with the natural world. That’s what’s going on here, in “People Mover,” a concept to reality in Bologna. This entire system is made up of 5084 meters of track, a monorail with two terminals. The entire route is laid next to a walkway both for easy access at every stop and as emergency exit space.

Photovoltaic panels and green areas are included, it’s design allowing both the panels and overgrowth for maximum allowance of nature to run its course despite the modern technology. At the entrance to Bologna is a bridge called “The Link,” a structure relying heavily on natural and simple forms for beauty and sustainability.

Perforated steel is used along the entire length of stations where the train might stop, this material letting in light and making the space more luminous as well as saving on lighting costs. Plants overgrowing the stops help with the process as well, keeping the entire system cool, with trees planted along the north facades to create a natural windbreak. And that’s just the half of it. Once this project moves closer to reality, the true depth of the nature of this elemental project will come to light and hopefully the whole modern world will take note and follow suit.

Good Vibrations, JimmyJane Pleasure Toys Review

Posted: 31 Jan 2011 12:01 AM PST

You may have noticed our bias towards really beautifully designed sex toys. Sexuality is a facet of human behavior. Industrial design can cater to those experiences and we whole heartedly support sex toys with thoughtful design. We got out mitts on the latest toys from Jimmyjane and because I’m a man’s man – had to ask for a volunteer. Hit the jump for Bree’s review.

Designer: Jimmyjane

From our volunteer and contributing writer Bree

The FORM 2, 3 and 6 are a series of minimalistic vibrators sheathed in silicone skin with surprisingly powerful motors to get all your senses tingling. It’s unlike any other vibrator I’ve tried. These super powerful pleasure devices have two independent motors, particularly in the FORM 6 and FORM 2 which I’ve affectionately named “Little Rabbit.” Not only do they have five intensity settings, there are also six vibration modes to choose from. Believe me, it feels invigorating to switch from one mode to another.

What I absolutely love is the option to completely customize the experience. Whether you like to feel deep, penetrating, vibrating waves or fast shallow ones, all the FORM toys cater to your wants and desires.

The FORM 2 a.k.a. “Little Rabbit” is naughtiest of the three. It’s the smallest but the sensations from the two ears can literally make your body exhale in pleasure. The FORM 3 looks like a computer mouse but the pliable tip can be manipulated by a finger to apply just the right amount of pressure. I found the it best used with a partner where it becomes a device to tease and seduce. The FORM 6 looks the most traditional of the three and is my favorite. With both ends packing motors, the options are only limited by imagination. My only complaint is the buttons are sometimes hard to find and interrupts the whole experience when I have to feel around for them.

I would like to thank Jimmyjane for crafting these ever so elegant vibrators. The designs are so beautiful. One may even be tempted to display them proudly when not in use. Seriously, they make create bookshelf items. If you’re looking for a vibrator, skip the phallic cheap ones in trashy sex shops. Get one of the FORMS and prepare to be flushed with ecstasy.

What I loved:

  • Waterproof
  • Cordless and comes with a cute recharging dock
  • Travel-ready and quite discreet
  • 3 year warranty
  • Ranges from $135 – $185

Sex should be fun and enjoyable. Have a sense of humor about it like the company does. Check out this video starring the FORM 3.
