Posted: 04 Jan 2011 02:38 AM PST Losing packages suck and if commercial couriers aren’t going to do anything about it, we as consumers should be able to do something to prevent it. The G.P. Stamp is a small stamp-sized electronic chip with a built-in battery that keeps tabs on your shipment. All critical information is sent wirelessly in real time to keep you in the loop. The stamp uses advanced printed electronics to stay slim and on one side is a layer of flexible 0.2-millimetre-thick GPS circuit board. The other side features a flexible 0.4-millimetre-thick battery cell. You can get larger stamps with more battery life for longer shipment transits. Too bad it’s only a concept. I'd so use this for my next parcel shipment. Designer: Ho-Tzu Cheng ---------- |
Posted: 04 Jan 2011 02:33 AM PST Typically paper fibers can go through the recycle process five-to-seven times. Not too bad, but since we’re talking about innovation here, how about increasing thas lifespan? The Eco Printer uses specialized ink composed of photographic materials that disappear from UV irradiation. What this means is that non-sensitive documents can be printed, erased, and reprinted increasing the lifecycle of paper. Awesome! The Eco Printer is a 2010 Red Dot Concept Design winning entry. Posted: 04 Jan 2011 02:30 AM PST You can easily mistake the Rapunzel for a canister, instead its an easy-to-use safety-descending device. Designed by SADI student Sin Sun Ho, this safety line can be used in highrise buildings. You more or less have to glide down the side of a wall (Batman style), holding onto its secure wrist capsule design. Designer: Sin Sun Ho ---------- |
Spiral Garden System Fit for Urbanites Posted: 04 Jan 2011 02:28 AM PST Another awesome concept from IIDA, the Spiral Garden System is a proposal for a sustainable public garden that’s totally self-sufficient. The architecture adds interest to the urban landscape with its transparent, yet suggestive mesh cage. Native vegetation greenhouses coexist with urban orchards along a walkway that just beckons to be used. It’s a great “twist” on the typical urban garden and looks to be well suited for any plot size. Hat tip to Designboom. Designers: Benet Dalmau, Saida Dalmau, Anna Julibert & Carmen Vilar ---------- |
Posted: 04 Jan 2011 02:21 AM PST The Appletree displays the iPad without negating ergonomic accessibility. The iPad is still totally usable in portrait or landscape mode but in a more unique way. The stand works great for musicians, presentations, even as a decorative piece in the home. Simple and clever design out of some tubes. Designer: Michael Hilgers ---------- |
Green in the Virtual World is Good for the Real World Posted: 04 Jan 2011 02:16 AM PST Stella is a collaborative project that offers a tangible interpretation of how ecological actions can positively affect the environment. It’s thought that if people can quickly see how simple acts like recycling can benefit the environment, they’re more likely to replicate those actions in the real world. Designers: Julien Bergignat, Mathieu Azema, Arthur Brault, Maxime Billault & Nicolas Cloarec
