Speed Demon Powered by Biofuel Posted: 21 Jan 2011 02:13 AM PST As the world moves away from petrol, we have to envisage what the effects will be across all motor vehicles. This concept sport Modenas bike uses biofuel, specifically palm oil to burn pavement. The design is inspired by cenderawasih, a type of bird of paradise. The resulting shape is aggressive yet fluid. It’s not my cup of tea but I know many rocket heads that would love to take this to the tracks. Designer: Imran Othman ---------- |
Posted: 21 Jan 2011 02:08 AM PST Gorenje+ exclusive built-in appliances premiered at LivingKitchen 2011 featuring the unique iChef+ oven module with a large color display that makes cooking easier with a touchscreen interface. The interface lets you program exactly what it is you’re cooking. It’s designed to be simple but the brains behind the system is incredibly innovative. No cooking appliance has ever had an integrated computer this powerful. On sale in European markets this Spring. Designer: Gorenje ---------- |
Plug it and Read it, Your Memory of Course! Posted: 21 Jan 2011 02:01 AM PST I don't own many memory cards and have just one functional card reader for my Kodak's memory chip. However, I know people who carry plenty of memory cards in their cute little card storage boxes…. show offs! Yea I know you own many gadgets, click many pictures, store loads of data! Anyways, as I was saying; just having cards is not enough, you need to compliment it with a Card Reader. To cut the entire process by one step, Peng Qixuan has designed a multi cardholder that incorporates a USB stick. What a functional idea! Designer: Peng Qixuan ---------- |
Posted: 21 Jan 2011 01:59 AM PST Soft Screwdriver is a very easy to carry set of tools that is cleverly packaged. Ten different screwdriver shafts are housed in a strip made of plastic and rubber, which can be rolled to form the driver-head. Simply affix the right-sized tool you require into the middle of the driver-head and you’re ready to go! Folded like a bamboo mat or unfurled, I like the compact design. Posted: 21 Jan 2011 12:09 AM PST If you’ve never had your salt and pepper dispensed by a grinder, you’ve never really seasoned your food. If you’ve never had salt and pepper grinders that took on the shapes of chef’s hats, you’ve never really ground! The following project is called “Chef Power” and is a super cute approach to the classic chef’s hat, made tiny and helpful in combining the shape with the grinder of our favorite two seasonings in the world! One two three four Plastic Leg Posted: 21 Jan 2011 12:03 AM PST Here’s a table that will take all of your dining room table needs and put them in a nice clean package that was made perfect by machines who knew exactly what they were doing. This table goes by the name P_46, totally unassuming and ready to be picked up by the wild-naming community of copywriters our design world has to offer – made also as an office table, so perhaps “Dualie?” This table is a supreme bit of simplicity, made to work in many different environments and designed to “beat manpower costs” with production technology – used to make its molded plastic legs. Magical Man-Sized Box of Lovely Transparent Projections Posted: 21 Jan 2011 12:03 AM PST If you’ve never heard of holocube before, you’re in for a treat. This is a brand of products in their own category. Presentation machines I suppose you could call them, but projectors + projection booth + ultra-simplified computer to hold the projected video is what they are, and not just any projection booth – transparent glass for two-sided viewing. The model this post focuses on is the brand new HC70, a six foot tall box with a 70″ diagonal screen for full-sized human projections. Each holocube is attached to a 40GB solid state harddrive that can store approximately 18 hours of uncompressed video at a bit rate of 4 Mb/s or 8 hours of compressed video at 9 Mb/s. This harddrive is set with a number of automatic functions such as automatic reboot upon power interruption and it’s supposedly completely immune to viruses (though, I’m not sure why that would matter since it’s not connected to a network.) It’s got a single switch to operate as all operations are pre-programmed, all content changed and uploaded via USB interface. The brightness of the projector inside this huge box is 600 cd/m2 bright and has a resolution of 1080 x 1920. The computer running the projector runs on a Intel Dual Core 2.8 Ghz processor with Windows 7 Embedded, but again, that doesn’t matter as you won’t be accessing the computer at all. The bulk of the box is made of aluminum in either white or black matte powder coating, and the projection screen is made of a giant sheet of glass. Take a peek at the videos below to see this and one other model holocube in action! Designer: Joris Vanbriel for holocube ---------- |
