Elegant Solution to Cable Management Posted: 02 Feb 2011 08:00 AM PST Our buddy Dean Heckler of his eponymous Heckler Design has something new up his sleeve called OneLessDrop. It’s a simple, elegant solution to cable management. The top groove keeps your computer’s power cable at the ready while the bottom groove continuously anchors your mobile phone cable. It’s minimal, inconspicuous and C2C- just how I like things. Want one? Just hit the link to find out how. Designer: Dean Heckler of Heckler Design (Get one!) ---------- |
Posted: 02 Feb 2011 07:26 AM PST 106,000 aluminum cans are discarded every 30 seconds in the United States. Efforts to recycle the mounting heaps have met with mild success so Haoshi Studio in cooperation with PLA Studio have created a new kind of can called TIN CAN. It’s made of PLA yet it’s fully insulated and can be heated up to 110ºF. It even squishes like an aluminum can except it’s 100% organic and biodegradable. Designer: Haoshi Design Studio ---------- |
Posted: 02 Feb 2011 07:20 AM PST Hot Liner is a flexible panel that is rigid enough to form a stovetop. It’s intended for the deserts of Africa where sunlight is aplenty. A couple of belts together can increase the intensity of heat for cooking and accommodate huge pots and pans. A nice concept that I think can be developed and refined further, in any case it was showcased (and won the Golden Haechi) at the 2010 Seoul International Design Competition co-hosted by our good friends at Designboom. Finally A Phone That has it ALL! Posted: 02 Feb 2011 07:18 AM PST The concept of slender phones with large faces was tossed out of the window thanks to iPhone and brigade. We like our phones meaty with healthy real estates and all the nuances; nothing short of a super-powerful computer in our palms. So here's The “perfect phone,” one with a huge display, slide out keyboard, mouse-esque controls and Windows 7. Designer: Lin Jian Feng ---------- |
Posted: 02 Feb 2011 07:16 AM PST Ortie Design is proud to introduce the first object of their poetic-offbeat catalog. Bullet is a pencil in natural beechwood, with a graphite lead HB, in shape of M-16 bullet. Your life at work is hell? Your neighbors get on your nerves? Unsheat Bullet for a series of vengeful doodles… Or leave it carelessly lying around your desktop, in a conspicuous way… Designer: OrtieDesign ---------- |
Posted: 02 Feb 2011 12:03 AM PST Can you guess where the pen goes? That’s right! Right in the middle there, right in the crack. This project is known simply as “Notebook with Pen Holder,” and is designed by Teo Song Wei, a designer who, on the whole, enjoys automobile design the best. How does this lend to the design of a notebook? Simplicity above all else, then style, then aerodynamics. Not that this book is going to be racing a 500 anytime soon. This notebook could also be a sketchbook, a sketchbook whose cover is made of silicone rubber and whose silicone rubber has a pen holder front and center. Teo Song Wei lets us know that this project is in search of a producer – could be you! Designer: Teo Song Wei ---------- |
Posted: 02 Feb 2011 12:03 AM PST Take a look at or just think really hard about the shoes you’ve got on, if you’ve got any on. How many layers of material do you think they’re made of? Maybe 5? Take a look a project here by the name of DYNAMIC FOOTWEAR HX1, a pair of shoes with 7 layers of shoe. It must be a world record. There’s the medial layer, support web, lateral layer, inner bootie, sockliner, PHYLON midsole, HEX TECH outsole, and TPU heel counter for good measure. What could possibly be the reason behind such a complicated set of feet? The HX1 imagines your whole body running every day, seeing you with pain in your spine, in your shoulders, and indeed in your whole body, and it (or they,) think hmm, how could I make this person’s life better? The HX1 makes your life better by thinking about not only your feet, but indeed stimulating your entire body with Reflexology, granting you the feeling of a completely fabulous run. Twisted and Molded for Sitting Posted: 02 Feb 2011 12:03 AM PST The following is an exercise in sculpting. A project of carbon fiber proportions, one made when the designer Allen Chester G. Zhang was experimenting with shapes and materials. The project Zhang set for himself was a chair for hotels and cafes, and indeed that’s what’s appearing in the gallery inside this post. A lovely black and hopefully charcoal gray can be seen in each image. This is a chair made for sitting back and drinking up a cold soda or coffee all day long. On the front you sit, in the back you store. A loose fitting storage bit on the back spells out how relaxed your situation in and around this chair is meant to be, and smooth flowing will your chi and blood be moving. Designer: Allen Chester G. Posted: 01 Feb 2011 09:38 AM PST Part of the “Imprints: Designing for Memories” exhibition at the National Museum of Singapore, “VERY BIG” is a bookshelf with accompany Chinese chess pieces. The joints are fitted with strong magnets to hold the chess pieces and offers a unique way to constantly change the visual display of books and whatever else you usually put on a bookshelf. Clever.
