Resourceful and Giving Tree

Posted: 04 Feb 2011 07:37 AM PST

What we generally see at airport lounges or public spaces are very drab looking charging stations for cellphones. A very artistic and pleasing way to provide the same service is the Giving Tree. The green cords (hopefully retractable) can be pulled out to reach the phone, rather than the other way around. I say it’s artistic enough to be placed at home as well, what do you think?

One Liter Limited

Posted: 04 Feb 2011 07:36 AM PST

1ℓimit faucet looks more like an elegant test tube inverted on top of a tap. The glass tube holds exactly one liter of water, sufficient for a quick handwash. The theory being that we waste almost six liters of water and use only one, while washing hands. Once the stored one-liter is used up, you have to turn-off the tap till the next one liter fills up the tube. A cumbersome rationing process that will hopefully drive home the point of conservation!

Democratize Coasters

Posted: 04 Feb 2011 07:34 AM PST

The proverbial coaster hasn’t changed much aside from constantly shifting between geometric shapes and designs. It’s main function has and will always be to protect surfaces from moisture and heat but the emboGarden goes a step further to accommodate anything larger than a mug. A group of mugs, coffee pots, tea pots, even cookware. Communal and democratized coasters yes?

Pontiac Solstice 2.0?

Posted: 04 Feb 2011 07:27 AM PST

Never mind that Pontiac is a dead and a defunct company. Designer Dejan Hristov has his vision for the next Solstice and I’m wondering if it could have been enough to save them. Sure, Pontiac’s problems had more to do with GM’s legacy policies but nevertheless I like this car. I always felt Pontiac went out on a good note. The Solstice was a looker (cough – Saturn) but Hristov’s vision is much sharper and far more aggressive. What do you think?

All Children Go To Space

Posted: 04 Feb 2011 12:04 AM PST

The following project is at once a special huggy friend and a spaceship. Sounds like a childlike dream or space fantasy! Turns out that’s exactly what it is. This project is called “A Friend From Space” and it’s essentially a very fabulously crafted cushion that can fold up to become either a loving buddy or a spaceship from mars. Take a look at the cuteness and marvel at the simple engineering and fantastic skill needed to create such a kid masterpiece.

Balls of Farming Fury

Posted: 04 Feb 2011 12:03 AM PST

Designer Prithu Paul has quite a treat in store for you here. It’s a tractor of the imagination, one like you’ve never seen before, one made to work on the farm in ways we can’t fully imagine – because this is a tractor for the future farmer. Designed to work in the year 2020 AD, this tractor will work on an Earth in turmoil, one with “searing daytime temperatures” and harsh climate conditions for all. Hydrogen fuel based engines and embedded Nano systems rule the day, and a need arises for the common farmer to reprise his and her role.

This tractor works in a world that needs large scale seeding to be done in an extreme weather environment. SMART farming is no longer just a pleasant concept, it’s an absolute REQUIREMENT as the entire human race depends on it. This tractor goes by the name Deuterium, its name coming from the metaphor “heavy water” or D2O. This auto must be both powerful and stable and able to function to the utmost. Behold a list of specifics is here provided by the designer:

FEATURES
1. Multiple degrees of freedom in motion and body positioning
2. Onboard CPU, GPRS and sensor controlled motion path allocation for autonomous farming
3. Embedded NANO Solar Cells on the FRP body surface panels for harnessing solar energy
4. Strategic 360 degree light and Night Vision camera feed for 24 hour usability
5. Detach and deploy Roller Bots for topographic assessment, navigation and data collection
6. Vacuum Power Suction at the rear for pulling heavy farm equipment and ploughing tools
7. Retractable and expandable axial shift mechanism for adjusting ground clearance and length
8. Heavy traction tires in the front rather than back with a singular rear axis
9. Ergonomic interiors, central ingress and egress for manual operations
10. Increased degree of freedom along a path due to front wheel shift feature
11. Hydrogen fuel cells for almost no problem of heavy and cumbersome diesel engines
12. A multi dimensional tractor for the future farmer

Pillowy Lamp of Hardness

Posted: 04 Feb 2011 12:03 AM PST

The inspiration for this particular hanging lamp comes from the famous Chesterfield sofas (Capitonné), their fabulous and extremely recognizable pattern of pillowy poofs added to the outside of the shade. Challenges that laid in wait for the designers, Enrico Zanolla and Andrea Di Filippo, were no match for the team: that being defining the right size for each and every rhomb as well as finding the quality of leather that could fit the radius of the emispheric surface. It is the contrast between the smooth interior and the sophisticated deep-buttoned exterior that gives these lamps both glamour and classic style.

These lamps are available now with either a black or a white leather exterior and a choice of gold leaf, black or white mat lacquered. Very fine and lovely.

Ergonomic Strap

Posted: 03 Feb 2011 09:16 AM PST

The Split Strap is designed and developed with maximum ergonomics and comfort in mind. After studying how straps interact with the structures of the shoulder, neck and back, designer Benjamin Wong discovered that the planar/flat profiled nature of existing straps did not contour to the body well causing unequal weight/force distribution, discomfort and possible strain. The design utilizes a split in the strap which creates multiple points where the strap can sit and conform to the body -distributing weight evenly and increasing comfort. Gimme!
