Posted: 01 Mar 2011 12:49 AM PST The Kross faucet claims to be the thinnest faucet on the market but there’s a tradeoff. Its profile is quite large to compensate for the diminished width. Still, the chunky profile somehow works. Aesthetically it’s minimal without being visually conflicting. The German made rectangular aerator produces a uniquely shaped stream of water. The strength and temperature of this flow can be smoothly controlled via the easily reachable handle and high quality ceramic cartridge. Available in black, nickel and white but I would love to see it in matte red, blue and grey too. Designer: ISMA Creative Faucets ---------- |
Posted: 01 Mar 2011 12:33 AM PST I have a strange obsession with cuttlefish and it seems I’m not the only one fascinated by these creatures. The Sepii, named after the cuttlefish order sepiidae, is an ten-legged chair made from ash wood. Designed by K to N Studio in collab with Yoho, the chair is a gorgeous modern reference to its muse. Only three of the legs ever touch the ground at one time so feel free to “rock” it back and forth – perfect for my chair dancing routines. Yeah… I’ve choreographed chair dancing routines but I’ll save that for another post. Credits Designer: K to N Studio with Yoho ---------- |
Posted: 01 Mar 2011 12:04 AM PST The influence behind this royal thrown of neoplasticism was work by artist Piet Mondrian. Mondriz is the result of design team Dideia’s understanding that the line has almost become a work of art in itself. They have taken great veneration to ensure that no line was superfluous or misplaced, and the color chosen was in reverence of it’s inspiration. Mondriz verifies that linear, vertical and horizontal arrangement is inherently harmonious. It’s pure symmetry and powerful coloring make it an eye-catching addition to any space. Posted: 01 Mar 2011 12:03 AM PST In response to growing urban environments, the Fuse electric scooter aims to provide quick, sleek transportation while being spatially efficient. This single-person concept reduces the size of the already compact scooter by auto-collapsing vertically in park mode. For public parking the Fuse charges via electromagnetic induction on it’s shared smart-charging mat. Other highlights of the Fuse include a touch-screen display, integrated GPS, and open wireless technology. Not just for Obama, but any young urban professional. Designer: Lance Cassidy ---------- |
Posted: 01 Mar 2011 12:02 AM PST The scene is a fire in a highrise and the ensuing chaos can make it difficult for people to locate exits. In such scenarios, the Light Emitting Door could mean the difference between life or death. A bright LED located at the foot of the door directs people to a hinged shutter, kinda like a doggy door. I think its a neat idea and worth installing. Light Emitting Door is a 2010 Red Dot Concept Award winning design. Designer: Hsu Chih-Jung ---------- |
Posted: 01 Mar 2011 12:01 AM PST The 360 Compact Folding mobile phone has multiple touch screens hinged together to become a clamshell or a fully functioning tablet device. It’s an attempt at convergence between the compactness of a mobile phone with the utilitarian real estate offered by tablets. Any larger than this and it would be extremely awkward to hold up to your ears. Designer: Baek Kil Hyun from SADI ---------- |
Posted: 01 Mar 2011 12:01 AM PST Drawing inspiration from the steel lattice of electric transmission towers, the Pylone series of tables incorporates the interwoven support structure of an industrial icon into it’s robust design. The tinted glass top allows the viewer to catch a glimpse of the underlying sharp lines and abrupt connections that shape it’s bare-bones framework. Designer: Linn Kandel ---------- |
