Posted: 04 Mar 2011 08:23 AM PST The ‘Megaphones’ appear to be an eponym but they’re actually speakers. One of the ideas behind the Megaphones was to bring back “nobility” to the object: let’s replace the cheap electronics with hi-fi components. Let’s replace the plastic with wood but let’s keep the iconic shape. The final product is unique and has a distinct Dutch quality to it. Love the craftsmanship. Posted: 04 Mar 2011 08:10 AM PST The Host Lamp is designed to accommodate a fully integrated passenger appliance, a small humidifier. The principle of the host lamp is very simple – wasted heat energy emitted by the lightbulb is captured and converted to electricity by TGMs(thermo-electric modules) and used to power the humidifier. Posted: 04 Mar 2011 08:04 AM PST Feel guilty about hosing your car or watering the lawn? What if you could juice up some AA's in the process?Check out the Great Barrier – a mini generator fixed to your hose and in turns charges up a battery . This power is stored in an AA cell, the most commonly used size in the world. Okay, this isn’t exactly “green” by any means but hey, it’s kinda guilt-free right? Maybe? Posted: 04 Mar 2011 07:56 AM PST I normally try and yank plugs out because I can’t be bothered with getting on my hands and knees. Frayed wires and many broken plugs later, I have finally found what I need, the Single Hand Socket Strip! Clearly inspired by One-Hand Products, the strip has this unique tab that allows you to pull plugs single handedly without causing any damage to the head or wire. Designer: Zhao Zhaohui ---------- |
Posted: 04 Mar 2011 12:08 AM PST The Satvic Lounge Series is an expression of pure equilibrium between mind & body, universe & self. Individual materials for each model carry a deep representation of the relationship between the user & their environment, e.g., the raw wood base met with the polycarbonate seat represent the earth as being the only place a pure soul can be aware of it’s existence. I told you it was deep! The question to ask is not which one you like, but, which one you need. Designer: Karan Singh Gandhi ---------- |

Posted: 04 Mar 2011 12:01 AM PST When I was a kid there were always 2 things I needed to get to sleep: a bedtime story, and a nightlight. The Story Tent Light by Hong Ying Guo combines both into an interactive tent shaped projector, reminiscent of the forts and tents we all constructed growing up. By rotating the top section the Story Tent projects sequential light images through interchangeable frames to tell a brief animated story. This active design encourages using the imagination and provides tranquil light for a peaceful sleep; something both parents and children can enjoy together. Designer: Hong Ying Guo ---------- |
