Keeping Your Wheels Secure

Posted: 09 May 2011 08:38 AM PDT

The Senza system makes a bike completely secure. The whole system is incorporated into the bike itself making it easier to simply grab and go and also provides safety for quick stops. The handlebars separate into three pieces. The central piece remains in place on the frame, while the two handles lock together, offering more space, and versatility than a standard U-Lock. If a thief were to cut the lock off, it renders the bike virtually immobile, as there are no handle bars. In addition the lock on the rear of the bike is used to secure the back tire and seat post.

Not Your Average Mobile Phone

Posted: 09 May 2011 08:36 AM PDT

The ENSEMBLE explores new ideas about mobile phones. A metal skin protects a vegetal core. A spin unfolds to dispatch its “digital sap.” An organic and intimate relationship is established through this staging technology. The controls are voice command enabled and information is displayed through a micro screen. The phone is not an inert object placed on your cheek, but a succession of colored skins and sensitive materials that open to spread messages.

Intimate Wash with Wanda

Posted: 09 May 2011 08:26 AM PDT

Wanda is not a person but a bathtub designed by Daniel Debiasi and Federico Sandri for Antoniolupi. It’s been designed to make sure couples can get cozy and comfy enough when they take their bonding session into the bathroom. The tub features a border that rises up to create a backrest that protects and supports without occlusion. Shiny curved surfaces and sleek finishing just adds to the sensual outlook of the design.

Unveiling Light

Posted: 09 May 2011 08:24 AM PDT

I love the interactive way you can use the Secret Lamp. Just peel off the topcoat to reveal the radiance! Magnetic tacks at edge of the glow-face allow you to peel or stick back the upper layer, emitting enough light to suit your needs. It doubles up as a night light. It’s neat!

Interactive Urban Prairie

Posted: 09 May 2011 12:02 AM PDT

Urban Prairie is an intuitive and interactive motion recognition installation that seeks to recreate a 1000 square meter sea of prairie grass within a 5 meter shop window. The design aims to promote well-being and recreation in an urban setting while driving focus to the space through the intelligent use of motion sensing technology. Passersby can engage with the prairie and generate varying “wind disturbances” by simply adjusting their walk speed and other movements. Hit the jump to see it in action!

Seamless Modularity in a Table

Posted: 09 May 2011 12:01 AM PDT

The Nzela table isn’t just easy on the eyes, it’s also a picture perfect model of simple yet intelligently executed modularity. The table can be rearranged in multiple combinations to suit any space. No-tools required means only 3 minutes to put together, making for quick, seamless assembly and equally easy disassembly and storage. I think it looks great in the neoplastic color scheme shown here, but hues and variations in glossiness can also be personalized from Kayiwa.

Quantum Physics Meets Product Design

Posted: 09 May 2011 12:01 AM PDT

What if you could see what your life would have been like if you had chosen a different path, made a different decision, or taken the road less traveled? What if you could see what a copy of yourself is doing in an alternate universe? The Quantum Parallelograph is an exploratory project developed by Patrick Stevenson-Keating that examines the scientific and philosophical ideas of quantum physics and multiple universes and how they might be explored by individuals.Using online souces, the Quantum Parallelograph retrieves information about the “parallel life” of the user and prints out a brief description about what their “copy” is up to.
