| PBA Bowling 2 Amazon Free App of the Day Posted: 01 Jul 2011 11:31 AM PDT Amazon is at it again and today the FREE App of the Day is PBA Bowling 2. For all you bowling fans or people that just want to throw some balls down a lane Amazon has you covered yet again. Usually priced at $2.99 being the freebie for today is a nice treat. Great graphics and some pretty neat physics when you get that ball rolling fast enough it is worth the download that is for sure.
It offers 3 different game modes and challenge levels as well as 3 different throwing styles for every type of bowler. It offers single player, but you can also play against another human opponent or the computer. Here are a few of the additional details • Tracks stats and scoring for tournaments. PBA 2 offers just about everything but the bowling shirt and the goofy shoes, so you’ll have to grab those on your own time. They do mention that the game is not compatible with some older devices or tablets but for the most part you should all be fine to start playing. Head on over to Amazon and get it free by clicking here or by downloading it directly from the Amazon AppStore App. ) |
| ZENONIA 3 FREE in the Android Market Posted: 01 Jul 2011 10:58 AM PDT After the first two games in the Zenonia installment were both hugely popular on Android (and for $0.99 each) the third and best version yet ZENONIA 3 has now been released for Android and it is FREE. If you like retro role-playing games this is definitely for you.
With Zenonia 3 offering more than 200 maps and 137 quests, it’s a great big pile of gaming at any price but to be free is even better. Developed by the popular developers Gamevil both of the first versions were extremely popular in the Android Market, as well as other games by Gamevil like Baseball Superstars. The only issues with Zenonia 3 so far is a few comments in the market are showing it not working on a few tablets like the Motorola Xoom and the Asus Transformer, but I’m sure a update will be coming soon to get everyone up to speed. So get ready for some intense role-playing in this fun and engaging RPG and head over to the Android Market now to get it free by clicking here. ) |
| Droid 2 Update to Gingerbread Coming After Droid 3 Launches Posted: 01 Jul 2011 10:12 AM PDT All you Droid 2 owners around that have been patiently waiting for the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update might be sad to hear this but you might be waiting just a little longer. A leaked document floating around states that the Droid 2 Global wont get Gingerbread til after the Droid 3 launches. It is safe to say the regular Droid 2 is probably in the same boat but we could be wrong.
The Droid 2 has a few good things going for those that can’t wait, recently Android 2.3.3 was leaked for the D2 and you can read about that here. And if you dare to get a little crazy CyanogenMod 7 now supports the Droid 2 also. The options above are only for the bold that want to get a little crazy and flash 2.3 early, otherwise the wait shouldn’t be much longer as the Droid 3 should be launching soon. Back at the end of May Motorola called the update to Gingerbread “Imminent” so that is a good sign. Stay tuned for more information as this shouldn’t be far off. [via Phandroid] ) |
| Samsung Galaxy S II Launching on Virgin Mobile July 14th up in Canada Posted: 01 Jul 2011 09:53 AM PDT I hope you didn’t read half of the title and get excited only to see Canada at the end, but that is exactly what we have here. Exciting news for you Canadian readers while the rest of us here in the U.S. wait patiently for this amazing superphone to hit the streets. In just 13 days Virgin Mobile (Canada) will be launching the Samsung Galaxy S II 4G and everyone can run in and get their own if they are fast enough.
Yesterday we mentioned the device was headed to multiple Canadian carriers, and now you can all mark the date in your calendar if your use Virgin Mobile. Our friends at MobileSyrup happen to stumble on the internal document you see above showing not only July 14th, but the employees selling the most can win a SGSII for themselves. That shouldn’t be too hard of a job if you ask me. If you want to see more of the phone head over to our Galaxy S II Review where we show it benchmarking through the roof. I’m sure you guys up in Canada are as excited as we are and can’t wait for this phone to land, so stay calm and remember the wait is almost over. Drop us a comment or picture when you get your own, sound good? [via MobileSyrup] ) |
| T-Mobile Problems in New York, Outage Confirmed Posted: 01 Jul 2011 09:32 AM PDT If you’re living in New York and you’ve got a T-Mobile device or have pals and family with T-Mobile carried devices, you can rest assured that there is indeed a real problem going on and that the carrier has confirmed it via Twitter. All you emailers chatting us up this morning will be happy to know that T-Mobile will “restore service as soon as possible” so you can start accessing your Google+ accounts and join us in the fun all day long. Everyone outside New York seems to be completely unaffected.
Speaking of T-Mobile, did you know that we’ve got not one, not two, but THREE T-Mobile Android devices on deck? That’s right, three T-Mobile Android handsets coming your way very soon, perhaps even today if you’re feeling lucky. Those devices are documented in the following ways thus far: T-Mobile Samsung Dart Hands-on and Physical Comparison to Exhibit 4G and Gravity Smart, then the hands on with the other two: T-Mobile Samsung Gravity Smart Hands-On and Unboxing and T-Mobile Samsung Exhibit 4G Hands-On and Unboxing. Getting pretty pumped up yet? On the other hand, chances are you’re currently working with an HTC Sensation, which you can of course get a full review of or a hands-on of right here. You could on the other hand be using one of the following, all devices which we’ve reviewed on the T-Mobile circuit in the past few months: |
| Google+ App Updated Already, Now Supports Multiple Gmail Accounts Posted: 01 Jul 2011 09:26 AM PDT I know we have all had a little Google+ overload over the last few days or hours but don’t you all love it? You must admit its at least a little fresh and new with all those circles, not to mention the Hangout video chat works amazingly well and smooth. Last night Google updated the Google+ Android App and I must say that if the updates keep coming that fast we should be rocking by next week.
Google added a few minor UI tweaks and enhancements to polish things up, but also added multiple Gmail account support to the list. They even updated the main screen in-app to show a spiffy new icon with a picture for your profile as seen in the shot above. It’s the little things and I think it will get better and better really fast. In case for some odd reason you’ve yet to download Google+ for Android you can get it in the market by clicking here. Feel free to also read over our Google+ hands-on post, or the invite trick that works great. So are you guys all throwing out the #FF posts on Twitter this morning? Or are you busy adding new Circles like myself? ) |
| Path for Android released: Social photo sharing made simple Posted: 01 Jul 2011 01:01 AM PDT Path for Android has entered beta, allowing Google phone users to access the photo-based social network service. Released on iOS some months ago, Path positions its app as a way to share photos you’ve taken with a small group of trusted friends or colleagues: each account supports up to just 50 contacts.
Images can be tagged, both with the identity of people in the shots, as well as places and things in-frame as well. Comments and conversations are supported, along with records of who has viewed your image and – using Path’s “Emotion” system – how they felt when they saw it. For a broader audience, it’s possible to share shots directly from Path to Facebook. It’s a free download, though the Path team does warn that there could be a few rough edges and that it’s not quite as polished as the iOS version. You can download Path for Android v1.0 from the Android Market now. ) |
| Sharp Galapagos 7-inch Android Tablet Passes FCC Posted: 30 Jun 2011 03:51 PM PDT Hoo boy wouldn’t you like to get your hands on a device named after a pile of islands? That’s what Sharp is banking on, and if our brief history with the Galapagos name is any indication, we’re in for a hit-or-miss ride. What this tablet COULD mean for us is a 7-inch tablet (though in the past we’ve also hear 5-inch and/or 10-inch, just to cover all the bases, and an Android with massively present user interface overlay. Big fat tablets from the East, what we desire!
You’ll also want to learn the following: the 10.8-inch version of this tablet rolled through the FCC earlier this year. You’ll be having a look now at the EB-W71LJ-H, which if you follow along with the names, the EB-W51GJ being the 5.5-inch model, you’ll see that a 7-incher is indeed on the way. All we know about this tablet thus far is that it’ll be connecting over 802.11b/g/n WiFi radio and that it is, indeed, on its way into America. Now we’ve just got to decide if it’ll be any better than every other tablet we’ve gotten to see over the past few weeks and months – and wonder if it’ll feature Ice Cream Sandwich by the time it comes out, or if it’ll still be rocking Honeycomb. What it looks like from this angle is the Acer Iconia Tab A500, which, if you did not know, is a pretty sweet little ride of a tablet in itself. Believe that. Check this device out going through the FCC. Thanks to everyone who shouted this out to us, especially Tyree who sent it in three times! ) |
| T-Mobile Samsung Dart Hands-on and Physical Comparison to Exhibit 4G and Gravity Smart Posted: 30 Jun 2011 03:35 PM PDT What we’ve got here is the third of three mid-range Samsung Android smartphones that’ve been revealed over the past couple of weeks, this one the smallest of the three and certainly the one with the least special features. We’ve had a hands-on look at the Samsung Gravity Smart and a hands-on look at the Samsung Exhibit 4G, both of which you’ll find are a bump up from the Dart. Which one will be the true victor, you may be wondering? Here’s a hint: it’s not blue!
The Samsung Dart is a 4.09 x 2.40 x 0.51 (104 x 61 x 13 mm) handset that weighs in at 3.80 oz, aka 108 grams. It’s the tiniest little think you’ve ever seen in your life and a clear opponent of LG’s line of Optimus devices such as the LG Optimus V and the LG Optimus U. But how does it add up? This is one tiny device, with a 3.14-inch screen, 240×320 pixel resolution, and a 1200 mAh, we expect to be playing around with it for over a day at a time, but with such a small resolution on the screen, we’re hesitant to risk our eyesight.
The build quality feels OK, but certainly not on par with higher-tier devices. There’s a lot of plastic going on here, save for the display glass, and cheapness is one thing noone wants to feel in a device they’ll be paying for a data plan on. This device is a prime example of where Samsung should certainly be stepping up production materials instead of stepping back, without a doubt presenting one of the lowest quality devices they’ve ever made containing Android. We’ll be reviewing this device soon along with the other two Android Samsung devices we’ve got in the video above, so stay tuned. Meanwhile, what’s your minimum specs for a device? Would you ever have purchased something with such tiny specs as the Dart? Also let us know what you’d like to know about this or any of the three Samsung devices we’ve got on hand here and now. Review time, that means request time! ) |
| Google+ Invite Work-Around is a Go! Posted: 30 Jun 2011 02:18 PM PDT Google+ is pretty cool. I just got in last night thanks to a friend who invited me while they were still available. Unfortunately people were so excited to get in that Google was a bit overwhelmed while they’re just in beta, and had to cut off the invitations. Turns out that theres a pretty sneaky work around that will let people get their friends in, including us. If you requested an invite from us, look for an email!
Google+, Google’s new social sharing/networking project is a bold move, and has a pretty sweet Android app, as one would expect for something from Google. If you want in at the moment though you need an invite. Google was letting users send out invites last night, but then had to stop because so many people wanted in. Its possible though for people to let friends in by using the service to share with them! If you are one of the lucky few, and looking to get some more friends in your circles follow these simple steps:
From their enjoy sharing with Circles, video chatting with Hangouts, and explore Google+ and drop us a comment on what you think, is it just another Wave, or is it the future of social? Thanks Patrick! ) |
| WiMax Goes Mid-Range with the Samsung Conquer 4G Posted: 30 Jun 2011 01:33 PM PDT Samsung has announced a very interesting phone recently that straddles the line between high and low end devices with a very curious mix of specs. The device mixes some of the standard features of today’s superphones, 4G WiMax and a front facing camera specifically. Most of the other specs are very bland. Clearly as technology progresses so does our definition of high end.
Let’s start with a break-down of these very confusing specs. A 3.5″ HVGA screen, with a 3.2 MP camera makes it looks low end, but WiMax and a 1.3 MP front facing camera tell another story. Throw in a single core 1 GHz processor, and you’re smack in the middle of no man’s land. This comes as another in line of Samsung mid range Android phones. Android offers a much wider price range then other smartphone platforms with devices ranging from $0 to $300 (with contracts). Samsung is the manufacturer with one of the widest ranges. It looks like Samsung is convinced that there is plenty of money to be made by offering as big a range as possible, and apparently there was a gap between the Galaxy S II and the next level down. | TeamWin Has Now Rooted the EVO 3D Posted: 30 Jun 2011 01:13 PM PDT We just found out about the exploit this morning that TeamWin was working on and it looks like it didn’t take those smart devs very long because according to the latest tweet by Kevin Brucket as @agrabren he has now rooted two EVO 3D’s and one of those had the latest OTA update so both are looking pretty good.
We are still waiting for some sort of confirmation photo and I will update as soon as anything like that appears, but for now according to his tweets (I see no reason not to believe) he has now rooted a few EVO 3D phones. The thread over at XDA is now locked but will be opened as soon as they clean all the random posts people made the last few hours. So there you have it, the HTC EVO 3D has now been rooted and hopefully more good things follow this shortly. We will keep on this story and as soon as we have some hard proof of actual root we will update accordingly. [via Twitter] ) |
| Win a Samsung Galaxy Tab 7″ Over at Taco Bell Posted: 30 Jun 2011 12:43 PM PDT It seems they have moved on from the Taco Bell Chihuahua named Gidget that was used for years of advertisements for Taco Bell and now they are offering some mobile gadgets for everyone to get in on. Right now at participating Taco Bell stores you can win a Samsung Galaxy Tab 7″ (not the new 10″) just by buying a large drink or any combo.
I spent a few minutes over at the Taco Bell/Pepsi/Samsung official page and it looks as if they will be giving away 936 Samsung Galaxy Tablets, yup 936. The promotion is already started and will end on July 31st and all you must do is drink or pour out that large beverage and find a code imprinted on the bottom. Then text or email the code to be eligible to win. You can input the code here if you don’t have a cell phone. You Del Taco fans might have to spend a few dollars at Taco Bell over the next few weeks and hopefully you’ll win a new tablet. For me my favorite thing from either taco joint isn’t a taco at all, but the Bacon Double Del Cheeseburger at Del Taco but I’m not a big fan of any fast food although In-N-Out sounds good now I think of it. More details available at the source. [via Taco Bell] ) |
