| Greetings from the Campus Party in Bogota, Colombia! Posted: 01 Jul 2011 10:47 AM PDT One of the great things about working at NVIDIA is the ability to talk to gamers all around the world. This week, I'm in Bogota, Colombia, for the annual Campus Party, a seven-day, around-the-clock festival for PC gamers, computer programmers and console fans. I am struck by the passion for gaming that the folks here share and am impressed by all the high-performance gaming rigs utilizing hardware that ranges from older, creatively leveraged technology to the new GeForce GTX 580 SLI.
The Campus Party is unique in that it attracts 80,000 or more attendees throughout the week. The main event area is flanked by various stages, where companies and personalities hold presentations on almost an hourly basis. The topics range from programming tips and game development all the way to NASA space exploration and modeling brain functions. Let's just say, it's really easy to get your geek on at the Campus Party. NVIDIA is lucky enough to be participating this year with the folks at Gamers On, Columbia's numberone PC and console gaming publication. Needless to say, the PC crowd is hungry for game content, so we obliged them with a variety of demos, including Alice: Madness Returns, Duke Nukem Forever (in 3D Vision Surround naturally). We also showed off our GlowBall demo to highlight the graphics-processing prowess of our upcoming Kal-El chip, which is designed for tablets and cell phones.
Sponsored by Telefonica, a top telecommunications company, the Campus Party also includes an interesting expo area. This year, Campus Party attendees have the opportunity to try out the Policía Nacional de Colombia's bomb suits and remote-controlled robots in the expo area. All in all, this was a fantastic week for us. We are excited to see how PC gaming is very strong in Latin America, and the enthusiasm that Campus Party attendees have for NVIDIA is very gratifying. We look forward to making an annual trek down here, and wait with bated breath for the first Campus Party in the U.S.. Here's a teaser: according to our secret sources, Campus Party U.S. may come to Silicon Valley in 2012. We can't wait!

| GeForce Starcraft II Pro/Am Tournament Off To A Big Start Posted: 30 Jun 2011 03:27 PM PDT [Update]: Headline has been modified. Paragraph with Huskystarcraft’s quote deleted. Game play kicked off this week at the GeForce GeForce StarCraft II Pro/Am (GSPA) Tournament, hosted on http://geforce.cevo.com. The tournament features over $22,000 in total cash and hardware prizes. Co-Sponsor ASUS is providing hardware prizes with the top 10 pro and amateur players winning graphics cards featuring the GTX 500 series of GPUs. As you might already know, StarCraft II is one of the largest video game communities, with tens of millions of players worldwide. Being a PC-only game, StarCraft II is extremely important to NVIDIA as the GeForce GTX series of GPUs bring impressive graphics acceleration and an incredible gaming experience to SC2 gamers The GSPA Tournament will feature a professional player track that includes over 90 of the top pro StarCraft II players in the world. Some of the notable players in this track are:
The pro-player matches will be "shout-casted" on You Tube video by co-sponsors HuskyStarCraft and Day[9] on The Game Station Channel as well as on http://geforce.cevo.com. For the uninitiated, "Shout-casting" is to e-sports what sportscasting is to football or soccer. Shout-casters call the game action and make expert commentary for the audience's understanding and entertainment. The first two GSPA intro video releases to date already have garnered more than 400,000 views. Amateur registration was over double our best-case estimates with over 9,300 players from around the globe, many playing in their first tournament. This one of the largest StarCraft II tournaments ever. All tournaments matches are one-versus-one, head-to-head battles. There will be at least five weeks of guaranteed group play for all players, with the top players from each group moving on to the double-elimination championship brackets. World-class tournament features including match setting, anti-cheat controls, leader boards, commentary blogs, and more are being provided by tournament management veterans, Cevo (www.cevo.com). Our GeForce users are some of the most passionate gamers on the planet. This free tournament and all the great casting coverage from Husky and Day9 are our way of providing a really fun and rewarding experience for our best customers.
