| Motorola DROID Bionic hits front page of Verizon, didn’t stay long Posted: 19 Aug 2011 10:55 AM PDT Just like everything else surrounding the DROID Bionic like release dates and design, this didn’t last long. Verizon tossed up the Droid Bionic right on the front page of their website giving us a tease with the title saying “Rule All Machines” and then quickly pulled it down.
It appears someone might have hit the GO button a bit early because after appearing live on the site it was quickly pulled down and is no longer showing. Maybe they just wanted to tease everyone for a short while, if so it worked. Even though the Bionic has been delayed more than a few times the recent amount of activity is leading up to a big release date with no signs of slowing down the phone or its 4G LTE. The past few days we have seen tips and trick guides, ads in magazines and even more pictures of the Bionic and its big brother the Droid HD. This time around all signs are pointing to it actually hitting the streets, and soon. Lets just hope it launches on September 8th and for $299 like recent details have shown. [via Phandroid] ) |
| Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 WiFi Receiving small OTA update Posted: 19 Aug 2011 10:22 AM PDT Samsung is currently rolling out a quick and small OTA update for the Galaxy Tab 10.1 but only for the Wi-Fi version. This bug fix appears to be for tabs that are running the new Touch Wiz UX as the update brought on a couple issues for some users. Last we heard Samsung was halting the Touch Wiz update to fix some problems and bugs.
Just as we said, the update is quick and small being only 3.22 MB so users should be able to download and install the update in a matter of minutes and be back to Twittering, watching YouTube and reading Android Community in no time. The update is said to fix a few graphical bugs and glitches users were experiencing with the new Touch Wiz UX. For more details on the Touch Wiz UX update you can read our review of the interface. While it brings some nice features and such our own Chris Burns did notice a few glitches and experienced some lag after the update so hopefully this update fixes those problems. If you’re rooted I’d make sure to have a nandroid backup of some sort in case the update brings on any trouble for you. If you’ve received the update did it fix any issues you were having? | Crime Story game coming soon to Android Posted: 19 Aug 2011 08:45 AM PDT If you are a big Android gamer a new title will be hitting Android soon from Game Insight. The game is called Crime Story and lets the player live out their mob gangster fantasies. The game has been around for a while on other platforms, but it will be coming to Android “soon” according to the publisher. The game is claimed to be different from all the other games on Android right now.
The game allows the player to create their own gangster story. The premise is that the player works their way up to the boss while searching for a kidnapped brother at the same time. The move up the ranks will take players from the guy that does the dirty work to a respected gangster. Players get to do all the stuff gangsters in the old days got to do. You can eliminate rivals and a lot more. It sounds like a game that fans of The Godfather movie would like. This sounds like an interesting game. Check out the video to see more about Crime Story. Is this the sort of game you would try? |
| HTC is having another user event in London, new phones on the way? Posted: 19 Aug 2011 06:14 AM PDT HTC has been around for a long time and the company makes some of the most popular smartphones on the market today. It also makes smartphones with other OS’ as well. From time to time HTC has events all around the world and invites geeks to come and check out what it has to offer. At times, these events are press only, but sometimes HTC invites anyone that wants to come to check things out.
HTC has announced on its UK Facebook page that it will be having another user event where anyone can come by and check out what HTC has to offer. The user event will be on September 1 from 6:30 to 11:00 pm in London. HTC does point out that you have to RSVP and the event is first come, first serve with limited space. I suspect it will fill up fast, not only because there may be new hardware there to check out either. There will also be free food and drinks so you can bet it will fill up fast. The event is open only to those 18 and over. What do you think? Will HTC have some new devices at the event to get consumer opinions on new products or is this something else just for fun and marketing? I am betting there will be some new devices on hand and perhaps we will get a bit of a tease ahead of the event. ) |
| Gameloft site lists games for HTC Evo Design 4G, is release near? Posted: 19 Aug 2011 04:44 AM PDT When it comes to finding details about some of the phones we are really looking forward to, we will take any info we can get. We talked about the HTC Evo Design 4G smartphone before when it first leaked and we suspect that the Design 4G will be a cheaper version of the Evo 3D. Presumably, the smartphone will be lacking the 3D tech that some people won’t miss at all.
Outside that 3D tech the Evo 3D is an awesome smartphone so we are hoping that the Design 4G is in fact a cheaper version of that 3D smartphone. We have no idea when the Evo Design 4G will launch and we have no hard confirmation of the hardware inside the smartphone at this point. It seems that Gameloft might know a bit more than we do about the launch date for the Design 4G. Gameloft has the smartphone listed on its website to choose for downloading certain games. This could signal that the smartphone is set to launch soon, or it could just be an indication that whoever adds devices to the Gameloft site is ahead of the game. It would be easy to bet that come October we will hear more about the Evo Design 4G at CTIA. [via Gottabemobile] ) |
| Vodafone launches carrier billing for Android Market shoppers Posted: 19 Aug 2011 01:33 AM PDT Vodafone Europe has announced it will be offering direct operator billing as an option on Android devices, allowing users to charge apps from the Android Market directly to their phone bill. Available initially in the UK and Germany, Vodafone expects it to have a positive effect on app sales, where users may have previously avoided paid-software over the hassles of adding a credit card to their account.
Initially, Vodafone says, carrier billing will only be available to those who purchased their Android device through the company’s retail or online stores. The implication, however, seems to be that at some point that will be updated so that anyone slotting in a Vodafone SIM to their device will be able to charge apps to that account. Further roll-outs across Vodafone are expected in future, and we’re guessing other European carriers will follow suit. Several US carriers already offer operator billing for Android. ) |
| HTC Sensation 4G 2.3.4 Gingerbread Update Rolling Out Now Posted: 18 Aug 2011 04:47 PM PDT The HTC Sensation 4G on T-Mobile is all set to start receiving an OTA update today. It starts today and should hit most handsets within the next week. As always you can do and manually check for updates if you don’t want to wait. The update brings the Sensation to Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread. The EVO 3D was updated today and shortly after the update started rolling out it also appeared over at HTCDev as available for unlocking of the bootloader. Most likely the T-Mobile Sensation will get the same treatment in the next few days.
The Android 2.3.4 update for the Sensation should bring a wide variety of updates and improvements as well as what was needed for the HTC bootloader unlock process at the same time so users shouldn’t be waiting long for that to be activated. Some of the updates from T-Mobile and HTC include: New Features -Software stability Improvements -Improvements to Trace dictionary As always the update will hit your phone over the next few days or you can activate it manually by going to Menu > Settings > System Updates > HTC Software Update > Check Now > and hitting OK when it appears. The update is most likely pretty large and Wi-fi is recommended to speed up the entire process. While the update isn’t a special one the Sensation doesn’t have many issues that need fixing anyways so this is mostly maintenance as well as preparation for the unlock process. Again feel free to watch HTCDev.com/bootloader once you’ve accepted the update as it should appear on the site soon. Device Info

| Motorola DROID Bionic launching at $299 September 8th? Posted: 18 Aug 2011 04:33 PM PDT The Motorola Droid Bionic is appearing again for a little airtime in todays news. This time around its not a leak or a picture of the device, rather a price and possible release date. We have heard September more than a few times as a possible launch date so this isn’t anything new but we’ll take what we can get.
New details are coming to surface showing Verizon's MAP (minimum advertised price) for a few devices and the DROID Bionic is included. What we are seeing pictured below is the MAP stating once again that not only will we see the Bionic on September 8th but it will launch for $299 as usual that is with a new contract. What do you guys think of that price?
Most phones as of late and throughout most of Androids lifespan have been sold for $199 with a new 2-year contract if they are a new high end smartphone such as the Bionic. Verizon recently has changed this and the Droid Charge was raised to $299 at launch not because of the 4.3″ display but for the fact it was rocking Verizon Wireless 4G LTE. This looks like it may become the new standard for phones powered by LTE. If you want the speeds, you’ll have to pay the premium up front. I’d have to agree with the source of the leak and say that anything above $249 is asking too much, because we do sign a 2-year contract after all and that makes the carriers plenty of dough. Is $299 too much for a new phone while still signing a 2-year contract? What do you guys think. [via Droid-Life] ) |
| HTC EVO 3D Up Next, Bootloader unlocking is now live at HTCDev Posted: 18 Aug 2011 03:19 PM PDT Now before you all get excited and run to HTCdev.com you need to be running the latest OTA for the HTC EVO 3D that has just started hitting phones this morning. Yes this is still exciting news because just as HTC promised users can now unlock their EVO 3D bootloaders using the easy and simple web based tool.
The latest over the air update for the HTC EVO 3D is available now by checking for HTC software updates and that will update your phone to the required version to start the unlock process. If you haven’t already rooted and unlocked using Revolutionary this is the next possible option and is quick and easy. Remember that this will in fact void your warranty but the HTC site warns you plenty of this same fact.
This comes just three days after HTC started allowing the Sensation unlock to start so it appears everything is running along smoothly and there seems to be no issues I’ve seen reported thus far. Next on the list is the T-Mobile version of the HTC Sensation 4G and then starting in September they will be adding more and more devices to that list. | Mobiado Releases a Luxury Nexus S, Calls it the Grand Touch Posted: 18 Aug 2011 02:58 PM PDT We have seen a few luxury brands in the past release some awesome smartphones but this one might just be one of the better ones we’ve seen yet. A little gold plating and Gingerbread goes a long ways if you ask me. What we have here is the Samsung Nexus S outfitted with Mobiado’s touch of class. The pictures say it all.
You may remember TAG Heuer released their own Android phone covered in luxury too for the low price of $6700. This Mobiado offering is taking a similar approach except they were smart enough to use an already awesome phone for the interior and that is the Nexus S. It will feature Android 2.3 Gingerbread, the 1 Ghz processor and everything else we already know about the Nexus S. I did read reports the AMOLED display from the Nexus S was replaced with a standard S-LCD but other than that its basically the same phone.
They are calling it the Mobiado Grand Touch and it comes in a few different flavors. The Grand Touch CNC will be rocking a CNC-machined, aircraft aluminum exterior, or a CNC-machined brass body with gold plating. Then they also have the Grand Touch GCB which will be the brass edition and come in rose gold or yellow. The back of the phone is made of two pieces of sapphire crystal that connect at an angle and sure looks gorgeous if you ask me, just might add to the thickness of the device but that is all. So how much is this classy and elegant Nexus S you ask? We aren’t fully sure yet as they didn’t reveal pricing at this time. Trust me it will most likely be slightly out of your budget and similar to the TAG offering linked to above. It is pretty though right? [via MobileBurn] ) |
| Amazon Free App of the Day: App 2 SD Pro Posted: 18 Aug 2011 02:00 PM PDT Today Amazon has another awesome app running for the excellent price of free. Today the Amazon “free app of the day” is App 2 SD Pro. If you have a slightly older Android device say around the Nexus One era this is the perfect application for you. When you install too many awesome games, or all three Angry Birds are taking up all that internal storage you can use this to move apps to the SD card rather than internal 512mb or whatever your specific device has.
I wont preach about this much as most phones these days have enough storage that users don’t need apps2sd features anymore but many still do. Many users delete games, or wont install Adobe Flash and things of that sort to save space on their phones. You’ll no longer have to delete that awesome game you rarely play to make room for something else. Just move all the large apps and games to the SD card and you’re good to go. Today the paid version is free thanks to Amazon. Paid Features: -View all SD card capable apps and move them seamlessly Newer versions of Android like 2.2 FroYo and above do offer this as a stock feature and you can simple enter the manage applications tab and choose move to SD card. For many users this is still not an option, especially if you’re still rocking Android 1.6 or something ancient. If so get this free app of the day and free up some storage on your device. Remember moving widgets to the SD card is a bad idea because they wont work, just a tip. [via Amazon] ) |
| Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 for free with purchase of Samsung HDTV at Best Buy Posted: 18 Aug 2011 01:30 PM PDT Want a tablet? How about a FREE tablet? I thought so. Well if you’re willing to buy a Samsung 3D HDTV from Best Buy, they’d be happy to give you one. Starting August 21st, you will be able to pick up a 16 GB Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 at no cost when you buy either a Samsung 46″ Class LED 1080p Smart 3D HDTV or 55″ Samsung TV with 3D Starter Kit.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 is stillone of our favorite tablets, and by far the thinnest and lightest around. The 16 GB WiFi version in question normally sells for $499.99. While its an awesome tablet, many still have a hard time justifying the $500 price tag for a device which isn’t as mobile as a smartphone or productive and powerful as a full computer. If instead you’d rather justify purchasing a brand new 3D TV then a free tablet may be in your future. Best Buy’s offer is good for either a 46″ Samsung 3DTV, for $1499.99, or a 55″ TV with a 3D Starter Kit (2 pairs of 3D glasses, and several 3D movies) for $1999.99. Still pretty expensive, but $500 (in the form of a tablet that it) is a good chunk of change to save. [via Best Buy] ) |
| Apple opens another lawsuit against Samsung, This time in the Netherlands Posted: 18 Aug 2011 01:17 PM PDT Lets keep this short and sweet shall we. After Apple filed a lawsuit aiming to ban all Galaxy Tab 10.1 sales in the European union and winning an initial injunction halting the sales in Europe everyone was up in arms. Samsung later responded and now we are seeing reports that Apple might have altered some of the evidence. This covered all of the European Union except for the Netherlands, so now Apple is headed for that region too.
We all knew it was coming but now its been confirmed that Apple will be seeking the same injunction against Samsung products in the Netherlands. They are going after all tablets and smartphones here, rather than just the Galaxy Tab 10.1 like we’ve seen thus far. Apple’s new, parallel filing in the Netherlands details patent infringement also, rather than just copying design elements like in the European case. Reports are suggesting Apple’s request is for an injunction against ALL of Samsung’s Android offerings this time around rather than just phones or tablets. Similar lawsuits were also filed in Australia but were denied and even the same German court that applied the injunction for the EU has now revised his ruling making the ban only in Germany for now. While this is all still heating up and just getting started I wish it would all just go away already. I have a feeling this will get drawn out for a while but hopefully Google’s acquisition of Motorola will start helping out if that deal indeed goes through. [via Appleinsider] ) |
| Motorola DROID Bionic appears in a few more Best Buy Ads Posted: 18 Aug 2011 12:55 PM PDT Anyone heard of this phone? It’s called the DROID Bionic and I don’t think I’ve seen much about this phone lately. Almost daily now we have seen a leak or a photo of some sort and it’s to the point of almost irritation. Can Verizon just release this bad boy already? Today new pictures are popping up from multiple sources showing the Droid Bionic as “coming soon” in Best Buy ad magazines and more.
The Motorola Droid Bionic is only what like 4 months late to the market, unless we are counting when we saw it at CES but that wouldn’t really be fair. Just to help you readers out here are a few of the recent leaks. We saw some impressive speedtest results a few days ago, leaked photos of it and the Droid HD, and more recently a tips and guide manual. Latest reports are still suggesting a September launch date although we did hear some rumors of it coming late August but that is doubtful. So what does everything think about all these leaks so far? Are there so many that you don’t really care to see a flyer or Best Buy ad, or are all these leaks that are happening almost daily a good sign that it may be coming sooner than we think? I’m not trying to rain on the Bionic and its parade but I’m already switching my focus to the Droid HD and the Samsung Nexus Prime, but that’s just me. Either way this phone should and better launch soon, if for some odd reason they delay it again I don’t think it would end well for Motorola or Verizon. [via TechnoBuffalo] ) |
| HTC EVO 3D Software Update Now Available, Brings screenshots and bug fixes Posted: 18 Aug 2011 12:35 PM PDT HTC has just updated the HTC EVO 3D and they are basically fixing the issues that the first OTA caused the device from back when it launched. While the update didn’t take too long I’m sure some wish this would have came a bit sooner. The update (version number 2.08.651.2) began its rollout already this morning and should be hitting all EVO 3D owners by 8/23. You can check for HTC Software Updates now and it will pull the update just as I have done. It’s around 45mb in size so Wifi might speed up the process.
If you don’t want to wait for the OTA to hit your handset go ahead and go to Menu > Settings > System Updates > HTC Software Update > Check Now > OK and you’ll be good to go. Once you’ve installed the update you will find many bug fixes that should help overall performance and user experience and they’ve even added native screenshots. Fixes: -Device Lockscreen stuck in “half-state” They were also nice enough to allow more of the pre-loaded applications to be uninstalled by the user, something previously needing root access so we all appreciate that. The update brings along native screenshots to the EVO 3D and Sensation 4G. Hold the power button and quickly tap “home” and it will take a screenshot and save it to your gallery. I’ve just confirmed this indeed works and is easy as can be. Go ahead and update your EVO 3D phones and please feel free to drop us a comment below if you experience any issues or problems. If you are rooted I’d wait on accepting this in case the loophole that was found for root and unlocks has been closed. Device Info

| Samsung Nexus Prime Coming this October with 1.5 Ghz dual-core and HD Display? Posted: 18 Aug 2011 11:58 AM PDT We first reported yesterday that Samsung was right on track with their Super AMOLED HD 720p displays and now new reports are coming in stating they will be the first window for viewing the new Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich on the Samsung Nexus Prime. While this is still all just speculation and rumors everything does seem to be nicely lining up for us.
We have heard a lot of reports suggesting Samsung will be the manufacturer for the next Nexus device and that it would indeed come late 2011. While I’ve been hearing Thanksgiving for a time-frame new reports are suggesting it will hit the shelves around October for competitive reasons. With Samsung’s HD displays coming along nicely and most manufacturers running some powerful dual-core processors these days the specs are all nicely starting to line up with previous rumors. Those suggest the Samsung Nexus Prime will have a 1.5 Ghz dual-core processor as well as an upgraded 4.5″ Super AMOLED HD display with a resolution of 1280x720p to rock your world, pair that with Android 2.5 or 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich all coming in October. While many of these specs are most likely accurate and will be what we see on the next Nexus device, we still don’t know for sure who will be the manufacturer and when it’s coming. If these rumors are to be believed (and they all sound similar) then the next month or so will be exciting as we start to hear and see more. Recently some Android Ice Cream Sandwich screenshots were leaked to the public giving us a glimpse of the future. All I know is things are about to get really exciting for Android fans. | HTC Puccini Tablet will be called the HTC Jetstream on AT&T Posted: 18 Aug 2011 11:34 AM PDT Some new screenshots have leaked yet again of the upcoming HTC Puccini tablet. This time we now have what appears to be the official name and it will be known as the HTC Jetstream on AT&T. We saw plenty of screenshots at the first of the month but these latest images show the name as well as plenty of AT&T branding.
With the image above not only do we see the popular HTC Sense UI weather, but also the personalize icon up on the top right as well as the all familiar battery and status icons on the bottom. I must say I think I liked the Honeycomb stock icons a bit more personally. The HTC Jetstream will be the first 4G LTE tablet launching on AT&T according to recent FCC filings so some could even call the name “Jetstream” clever.
Here we can clearly see the name “Jetstream” listed in the screenshot to confirm the new name for the 4G LTE slate and from what we do know this should be a powerful tablet. Rocking a 1.5 Ghz dual-core processor, Android 3.2 Honeycomb (heavily skinned) as well as the usual tablet specs with a 10″ display, 1GB of RAM and the usual goodies. The leaked press images also revealed an 8 MP camera on the rear and pen stylus support but that is obvious with the pen icon showing on all the screenshots. Latest sources suggest the HTC Jetstream should be launching late September or early October but we have no confirmation so will wait for further details. [via PocketNow] ) |
