NVIDIA Brings Battlefield 3 Tournament to PAX Prime

Posted: 26 Aug 2011 04:37 PM PDT

It's that time of year again, when the gaming public descends upon PAX Prime to get a first-hand look at all the latest and greatest PC and console games. This year, NVIDIA is on the ground at the Washington State Convention Center to showcase the unreleased hotness that is Battlefield 3.

Whether you want to play the game on your own terms, duke it out in 12v12 single player tournaments or you simply want to win some cool prizes, we've got you covered.

We're giving eager gamers at PAX Prime (or PAX West, whichever you prefer) a chance to play Battlefield 3 in the PC Freeplay Area on Level 6 of the expo. Naturally, we'll be pushing pixels on "Fully Loaded" PCs running two NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580s in SLI – provided by Maingear. You'll get to see here how killer this DX11 game truly is, and why you'll want to be sure your gaming rig is ready with the latest GeForce GTX GPU.

For competitive types, NVIDIA is hosting a daily 12-v-12 single player tournament in the PC Freeplay Area. One grand prizewinner will emerge each day to claim an ASUS Transformer Android tablet with laptop dock. The daily runner-up will take home a GeForce GTX 560s graphics card.

Or, if you're just looking to walk around PAX Prime to gather swag and win prizes, all you have to do is look inside your show bag. If you find a "Golden Ticket," you're an instant winner. Altogether, we'll be giving out more than $20,000 in prizes at the show.

You can also visit the Main Theater at the Paramount to pick-up an NVIDIA tattoo sticker with a five-digit number. Simply slap that sticker on your arm (or wherever else you deem appropriate – just keep it family friendly) and look for an NVIDIA staffer wearing a bright green shirt. If the number on the shirt matches the number on your sticker, you win. Prizes include 3D Vision Kits, GeForce GTX 550 graphics cards, game codes, PC gaming peripherals, cooling systems and more.

If that's too much hassle, we'll be roaming around the show floor looking for folks wearing any sort of NVIDIA gear (your tattoo sticker works). If you're in the right place at the right time, you might get picked as one of our random winners and win a prize on the spot. And, to keep things interesting, we'll hold random contests in the PC Freeplay Area on Level 6.

Get ready for a big weekend at PAX Prime. Be sure to check out our PAX event page here for more info on what NVIDIA is doing at the show.

GeForce LAN Is Back – On An Aircraft Carrier

Posted: 26 Aug 2011 03:33 PM PDT

Call your friends. Ask your significant other for forgiveness. Gear up and get ready to geek out for 48 hours of non-stop gaming goodness. The legendary GeForce LAN is back and, this time, it's on an aircraft carrier.

As if stringing together miles of network cables wasn't enough of a challenge, this will be the first time a 48-hour LAN party with hundreds of gamers will be held on the historic USS Hornet, a retired WWII-era aircraft carrier in Alameda, Calif., just outside San Francisco.

At this year's GeForce LAN – in its sixth incarnation, if you're counting – we'll be showcasing the highly-anticipated Battlefield 3 (get the tie-in now with the USS Hornet?) PC game. Watch the trailers for this game and you'll see why Battlefield 3 is sending PC gamers around the world into a veritable frenzy.

As usual, GeForce LAN will feature a massive BYOC (Bring Your Own Computer) area, around-the-clock tournaments and contests, gobs of prizes and an exhibits area where you'll find PC gaming vendors showing off their latest and greatest.

Registration will open soon. We'll offer BYOC tickets (for those hardcore enough to spend 48 hours gaming with us), as well as general admission tickets (for those who just want to come by and experience this event, check out Battlefield 3, and the USS Hornet). We'll also have limited spots available for sleeping aboard in the USS Hornet barracks for those in the BYOC.

Yes, boys and girls, you get room and board at this LAN party. We'll even lead a few rounds of dodgeball on the flight deck to help you stretch your legs.

Don't miss this event  – just ask those who have been to a GeForce LAN before:

More details to be released in the coming weeks. Stay tuned.
