Android’s appeal is growing, Apple’s declining, claims recent market survey Posted: 30 Sep 2010 09:13 AM PDT ChangeWave, a market data company has conducted another survey questioning current and potentially future smartphones owners on their plans to purchase a device. The survey which was conducted for the 3-month period spanning June to September unsurprisingly shows Android's appeal to have grown 7%. Meanwhile, Apple's has dropped by about 12%. ![]()
Android appeal raising from 30-percent to 37-percent marks yet another jump in interest in the open platform. We saw a plateau effect on Android appeal around the launch of the iPhone 4, but since then it has been steadily jumping. However it is not all good news, in their customer satisfaction survey conducted during the same months, 74-percent of iPhone buyers were "very satisfied" with their current device, whereas only 65-percent of Android users claimed the same satisfaction. This still puts them well ahead of their competitors Palm, RIM, and Windows Mobile. With many high end devices set to launch this year and early next year we can expect to see both the satisfaction and appeal numbers grow in the next survey as Android continues it's race to the number 1 mobile platform. Google Phone Gallery offers a comprehensive view of Android phones Posted: 30 Sep 2010 05:36 AM PDT Google has just launched a new section of Google.com, Google Phone Gallery. Listing some of the latest (and some not so much) models of currently available phones, this is a great tool for first time Android users to browse the devices side-by-side cross carrier. ![]()
This is a great tool for new and experienced Android users alike. Many of us has compared phones but this is definitely the most comprehensive, cross carrier, option available. The list of devices can be narrowed down by manufacturer and operator and is currently available for the US, UK, Europe, and several Asian markets. Expect updates to the site to bring in newer devices, more countries, and maybe even a Google price search to find out where the best deal on a specific device is at any given time. It turns out that users were experiencing caps around 150kbps, and this can be very annoying and unneeded. It seems that a fix is coming, and coming very soon – tomorrow. ![]()
Over on the official Sprint forums there has been much talk about the issue and after a month of waiting, and an ever growing thread, it appears as if we have a solid confirmation of an imminent update! According to administrator dshoem01:
Although this seems to be very opaque and not informative the simple fact that it was posted directly in the thread dedicated to this issue gives us great hope that we can soon be uploading at non-capped speeds. [Via Engadget] ) |
